B2z have you looked at the Toyota Corolla verso? Our childminder has one and she can get 2 babyseats and a booster across the back, 7 seats too.

Doesn't look like a people carrier either - much!

Ditto on the D3 prices going up in the last 4 months, the stealers cannot get enough of them, but when the D4 is released I think D3 prices will drop again as they'll have loads!
Nice example

+1... It's a VERY nice place to sit in a traffic jam
and 3 or 4 hour journey's are a breeze..it's like taking your favorite armchair in the car with you.

If you plump for an SE give me a pm, I can give you the details of a "man who can". He'll unlock all the HSE 4x4 info, offroad sat nav, dif lock & ride height graphics for a small fee, and he's mobile

Cheers Andy it was my plumbers car, I was actually looking for a RRS but when I saw this D3 and then took it for a drive there was no comparision (I took a D2 out and hated every minute, the D3's so much better in ride quality and performance)
1: It's nicer inside than the RRS, with all the toys even though it's an SE
2: Does not have the drug dealer image of the RRS
3: Was already sitting on these RRS 20" supercharger alloys
4: Only done 37k and was £10k cheaper than an equivilent aged RRS
5: Has just won "large 4x4 2009", even though the D3's now 5 years old..

I'm looking forward to testing the D4

I must admit we had a good look around the disco3 at a car show its a great car but way out of our price range. Mazda 6 estate is huge too

I paid £17.5k for my 05 SE with 37k back in June

Another "stealth" method is to use turbochip, they are national & mobile and quote the same power/torque increases as JE... I just prefer to use JE because of their pedigree.

range rovers wouldnt see which way an x5 went on road and for 95% of people the x5 is perfectly capable off road if driven correctly. if your going properly off road id suggest very few people do that in 50- 80k s worth of rangerover and for those that do they wont go where my 3k l200 will.

I've done fairly extreme green laning in a brand new LC Amazon (pretty luxurious) up tractor only tracks - it was very capable but it felt wrong in the extreme!

I'd rather have a RR over an X5 any day - the X5 is very good but the RR is so much nicer.

99.9% of people the world over, who need a car that can cover large distances on and off road choose the Toyota Landcruiser

makes every other european product look like the softroader's they are

"if you want to travel in the bush take a Land Rover -- if you want to come back - take a Land Cruiser" as the Aussies say

the rrs is nice but small inside and suffer from cronic suspension issues , bushes etc.

the disco is a much better car and drive imo but again has issues with suspension , water leaks , minor stuff but can work out expensive ,

of the two id choose the disco tdv6 and get it chipped , it removes the flatspot when accelerating and feels more responsive , also avail on the sport , they are both great off road but hardly are ever taken beyond a high kerb in the high street lol

the rr v8 d is also a great car , fast and torquey as **** but do suffer from oil pump failure .

the disco td5s are now going at resonable prices to , i chipped one and it used to leave the v8s for dust lol .

I've driven from London to Cornwall and back several times in an Amazon (4.2TD) and although luxurious and brilliant off road, I just think they are too big and rolly for distance driving. Driving one through the City is a nightmare (although taxis do get out of your way) and they guzzle fuel too - got well under 20mpg every time.

I'd get a Disco I think. And might well do soon too.

but would you want your wife and (hopefully) 3-4 kids driving around, albeit very stylishly, in a breakdown waiting to happen

I would never argue that the Amazon is a better road car than the Disco BTW

when it's going that is

So LRs still break down constantly? That is their one major downfall. I have broken several Defenders - one actually blew a hole in the bonnet.

I'd do some major nerdery on reliability before taking the plunge. Not really any other contenders in this market - good off road, decent size inside, comfyish. I could never go for an M Class - just don't like them.

Just had my D3 chipped, plumped for a B.A.S (Bell Auto Sevices) map in the end. Due to 3 reasons.
a: No travelling, all done by post and internet (You buy the interface, BAS posts this to you and you upload the map yourself)
b: Recommended by other D3 owners on DISCO3.CO.UK - Dedicated to Discovery 3 and LR3 Owners and Enthusiasts
c: You can switch between modified and standard map whenever you wish.

The car's much smoother with plenty of oomf (Still not X5 pace but not bad for a 2.7 tonne hunk of metal)

could you live with the image of an X5 -- probably really good cars but unfortunatly I don't deal in drugs

I really like the Disco (and RR products in general) but they make such crass design decisions which impact reliabilty to much imo

I just love the "integrity" of the Toyota LC -- it is a brute and not the greatest drive but like the Terminator -- it will not stop EVER (see the many youtube clips of it towing beached Hummers to safety in the desert)

and with the wife and 5 kids there is only so hard you would want to drive

but you are bang on re the MPG -- not good (certainly for the performance delivered)

New V8 TDI LC is quite a lot pokier but I can imagine mpg is even worse?

My inlaws have an X5 with all the toys - very nice to sit in, lots of toys, amazing handling for it's shape and weight, fairly quick but I feel a complete t1t driving it.
