Bren. Recieved my Apex kit (GDB) today. Excellent service. Sounds like I may have had the last one?
As there were no instuctions (not a problem as I've changed suspension before) I would like your recommendation re-
1) Should the pre-load be set before installation (I assume it has been set at the factory? Even though compressed, the springs can be rotated by hand)) or after, whilst still jacked, to ensure full extension of the strut?
2) As the thread appears to be 2mm pitch, setting pre-load could be achieved by turning the collar 2 turns from initial contact to give 4mm pre-load?
3) Re-set pre-load after a couple of hundred miles to compensate for spring settle?
4) As a general rule, what is the ride height as supplied and can it be adjusted as it sits or the car jacked, to relieve load on the threads?

Response to the above may be of use to others about to install?

Spring preload should be preset to around 3mm. Id double check that. Just measure the length of the spring as its sat on the damper. The resting spring length is printed on the side of the spring in the following format:

62.200.006

62 = i/d/ of the spring
200 = spring length in mm
006 = spring rate in kg.mm

So if you have a 200mm long spring then it should be 195-197mm long when assembled on the damper

I would strongly advise you to remove the bottom mounts from the dampers, copper grease the threads and rebuild.

2) As the thread appears to be 2mm pitch, setting pre-load could be achieved by turning the collar 2 turns from hand tight, to give 4mm pre-load?

I dont have the pitch details to hand so cant confirm.

3) Re-set pre-load after a couple of hundred miles to compensate for spring settle?

Yes, its well worth rechecking, more so if you decide to run less preload in the first instance. We personally recommend 5mm preload to accomodate for the spring relaxing slightly with use. The factory prefer 3mm.

4) As a general rule, what is the ride height as supplied and can it be adjusted as it sits or the car jacked, to relieve load on the threads?

Its completely random. Some of the kits are too large to fit in the box so they are shortened to suit. I would always jack up the car to take the weight off the unit before attempting to alter ride height. I would personally also remove the bottom mount from the hub to make any significant ride height alterations as it speeds up the process no end.

LOL... i'm ever more confused now. I thought the hatch was always recommended to have equal springs or better still rear biased, i'd just got my head around why and now they recommend front biased like newage/classics. Which interestingly is what Tein supply on their monoflex kit.

I want to get a deposit down but the spring selection is bothering me

fitted mine today to my gc8 wagon superb kit... easy fit took just under an hour, didnt have time to mess with the height just whacked them straight on after checking fronts and backs where at matching heights. sits very low and on bumps my tyres where rubbing with it on soft 5 clicks (but was extremely comfy to drive) at first then stopping to change to hard 25 clicks (still comfy but you could feel it more bumpy) slightly better but still rubbing on bends!! will have a mess with the height 2moro and post some more!

The temptation to drop it right down can lead to all sorts of problems! With all the speed humps about you have to be sensible about ride height!
My STi has Prodrive springs at the moment and that's about as low as I want it to go so I'll measure wheelarch to centre of wheel as it is, and aim for that when the kit goes on.
Did you see my offer for the extenders?

just going to fit the extenders through my speaker grill panel so as not to have to remove my dog guard everytime i want to adjust them john cheers anyway

Hi Bren, been looking over all your previous group buys, and im serioulsy liking these BC coilovers, as my standard STI ones are on the way out i think.
I have an 03 Blobeye STI, what are the struts for me? Also, on a purly cosmetic level (tart) are there red strut tops avalible?
What would be the price if i ordered a set now?
Are you planning on doing another GB soon or in the very near future?
Because if you are, i'd love a set at that price..

OOoo...Do you get these ones in often, as its insurance season, and as much as i would bite your hand off at that price, i can't do it at the moment.
Possibly before the years out, failing that, new years... ..i don't like turning down a fantastic offer like that.
Sorry mate..

We have them coming on regular shipments but this special price really has to be knocked on the head soon as it really is too deep a discount to be sustained for much longer.

However I will organise a more clear group buy in a new thread in the near future.

Bren - I take it we just call up and order them and they'll be at that price?

I need a set for the "winter hack"

Bren how much are the camber adjustable top mounts for the rear Apex coilovers?

If the price is right I'd be after a set of the Apex coilovers for a GDB MY05 5x114 fitment with a 6/5 spring rate at the special price if it's still going and the adjustable top mounts.

Going on holiday in a few days and won't be back until the 25th November but I'd be happy to give you a call to pay a deposit so they can be held until I get back. Assuming you have what I'm after in your mid November shipment.

Will PM you as well.
