Ahhh, I thought it was just my connection/laptop, as I was trying to upload a photo yesterday.

That explains it then.

From Steve Simpson back in 2008 "Cost is £115 for software incl vat and p+p, I need to know the ECU serial number which is on a large yellow sticker on the circuit board"

Am I right in thinking lappy just needs wireless once software installed and it will connect?

You get a serial lead with the software and dongle, you will need to get a serial to usb convertor to connect to a laptop. As most modern laptops do not have serial connections.

example of said lead:

Yup- use one with my netbook- you get full logging etc, but obviously not a wideband feed

You can get the ECU upgraded to read lambda for logging.

I have been told the software can also be changed to show voltage output rather than lean/rich.

Ace that reads error codes as well? I wonder if it's meaningful though?

Up for buying this in Jan once it;s slightly warmer and I can get out to car and read serial...what payment method and how to order?

Thanks all

You did not say anything about map issues but E-mail me details and it will be looked at. We did not notice anything.
I have two Simtek ECUs, one being one of the very early ones, Darren runs a Simtek on his P1 2.5. Cold start, hot start and idle is not an issue on any of them and they are all daily drivers. Of all the Simteks we have been involved in, I am only aware of one customer with issues and that is already booked in for attention.
When I bought my ECUs the Simtek represented best value for money and probably still does today without further enhancements. Closed loop idle or knock were never part of the package but they would be nice to have when available but neither are essentials as far as I can see. Closed loop idle may make it easier for the mappers. There is a flashing CEL to warn of DET. All in all a very capable ECU when fitted and mapped properly.

Tony, why not have a word with Bob when he returns to the UK in March.

Hey Harvey, I have chap. Bob's okay to do the full power map shortly (probably April now) but we still need the firmware update to get my idle sweet. My 2.5 with piper 285 cams seems to be the issue...Will report back on next map and then see where we go next...

I'm still currently at the stage of stalling between cold and warm (bad on roundabouts), idle ruff in traffic queues, idle up and down sometimes other times not bad at all...very strange.

Closed loop idle has been tested on 97-98 ECU and is approved. However I should point out that we are able to achieve stable idle with wild cams and 1000cc injectors with the current level of software...The update uses a combination of ignition timing and ABV proportional tables to control idle but this can be achieved with current software. The update should mke calibration easier, but the base idle warm up and fuel warm up tables still need to have appropriate values.

If you need to discuss further you can always call me on 07836 635001.

Thanks for response Steve. I'll run this past Bob R when he's back as everyone seems to be saying the same thing in that my idle should be good for car spec, remap now April, with simtek as is.

Picture paints a thousand words. 60 sec screenshot of my Idle with simtek that I self tuned.
The drop in the AFR is the thermo fans kicking in but it doesnt effect idle.

Wish mine was like that...anyway found a few problems during work on inlet manifold/par fuel rails/tuffnol spacers fitting including broken injector seal (bottom seal so important), purge valve leaking on boost and vac so now plugged up and SX fuel pressure reg varying on pressure so replaced with new. Mapping in early May with Bob.

Ran mine last night just as another test since fixes and mods, revs higher everywhere from cold start to actual idle. Once warm she's between 1100 and 1400 up/down up/down. Least it's constant I guess...over to mapper.

Just to advise it's possible to get decent idle (as stated on topic) with simtek as is, wild cams and lamdba one, it's taken a few hours of fiddling on my own using the simtek software (which is very good and easy to use). More tweaks on idle to follow but already happy with result as dont have to run rich idle and don't get hunting.

Simtek not at fault, just to be clear.
