My Simtek idles great, both on E85 and on Vpower. And the mapper here in Sweden is relatively new at mapping Simtek too.

There is no witch hunt, but a reasonable question, as to why upgrades that were supposed to be in the pipeline, have been shelved with no comment from Simtek.

If Simtek are not going to offer active knock control, wide band closed loop fuelling, say so. I will then sell my Simtek for what I can get and move onto a Syvecs or something similar.

The upgrades have not been "shelved" as you suggest. The problem has been one of resources being assigned to other tasks related to the high volume of sales this year.If you originally purchased your Simtek on the understanding that these upgrades were a "guaranteed" future feature then I can only apologise for the delay - but I personally would not make any promises I could not keep. I still believe that the current specification represents exceptionally good value but agree that the upgrades will enable us to tick more of the boxes.

We should not confuse however the issue of upgrades and fitness for purpose of the current ECU - the original theme of this thread relates to idle control and there is no issue with current spec Simteks being able to achieve idle control with correctly set parameters.I have recently been asked to rectify so called "cold drive off" and "idle" issues and (unfortunately) all have been mapping related.A closed loop idle strategy for 97-98 versions has been tested and is available however.

Simtek is missing the 'nice to haves' If it's mapped properly it's very very good ! Knock control would be a nice addition, although a glug of NF does me fine for piece of mind atm.

My only criticism would be that there seems to be little in the way of quality control for who is allowed to be a dealer/mapper for Simtek. Some are clearly inflicting their inexperience on paying customers cars which is poor for the customer and poor for the brand

Yes it is very very good. Knock control would be my first priority as an improvement.

Appreciate your comments and take on board the "quality control" observation.I am responsible for setting up the dealer network and the initial "software training" so ultimately it is my fault!

I have found your customer service outstanding Steve, always prompt and extremely helpful. I dont need the knock or idle updates as I have no problems in these areas but when I send my ECU for the wideband upgrade then I want them done at the same time so I am happy waiting.

I am glad I purchased a SimTek.

just to update with my experiences over the last couple of days, i decided to contact martyn jeffrey and have a chat with him about the issues im having and after several pms back and forth i have organised to have the car with him in the new year for it to be sorted out.

on top of that, i have had contact from steve simpson from simtec, with an offer of me either going to his premises or him coming to me, in order for him to sort out the same issues free of charge, which i can only commend him for.

i have politely declined steves offer for the time being due to already making arrangements with martyn, which will cost me i hasten to add, and would prefer to see things through that i have arranged.

i will update with final outcome when its sorted.

thanks for all those who added their experiences to the thread, and to those who have given me advice in dealing with the situation.

It does have a det warning light- just use your right foot to reduce RPM!

The only issues I have had with mine was a dodgy mapper, and when I was really desperate (as had an event coming up), steve was fantastic at offering support, probably pulling him away from a boring WRC car or something..........

The quality of the mapper is vital- JGM has always got mine right, and the other bloke knows who he is and my comments (as does Steve)

Interesting thread!

I assume you are in Scotland if it was mapped at Wallace, if you're passing Edinburgh let me know and I'll sort it out for you.

Andy.

I had a Simtek ECU on my race car early last year, 1600cc injectors, idle was never an issue

i have a simtek on my new/current car and its shocking, once its warm it cuts out all the time in traffic and at lights, and hunts badly on idle unless i blip the throttle to stop it,very embarassing and annoying,Cant wait for you to sort it for me simon.

I have had my Simtek in my car 4 nearly a year now and i did have some idling issues to begin with but since i replaced the engine and had it mapped again it now idles perfectly and runs like a dream-imo it's an excellent piece of kit and transformed my car after i had it fitted and although i would welcome the proposed upgrades the ecu still works perfectly at the moment
