The problem is the "Better" thing, fitter, probably, richer, whatever, I think his issue was that he perhaps expected kudos for things he put a lot of effort into and just got the p1ss taken as on here, we generally dont cope with people listing their acheivements or boasting on here unless its done in a humble way, NACRO did it as well, we just dont cope with having wealth or prowess rammed down our throats, Mattee wasnt good at the humble aspect and in fact made a point of dismissing or slagging anything off he thought was beneath him. Eventually his manner got peoples backs up and they started reacting, then it got to the point where he was actively baited and whole threads started about him, it got vitriolic and now he has ended up in the same vein as the PSL/SSU entity in that he cant say anything, however innocent without being wound up, slagged off or RTD'd, some posters seem to continue logging on just to exact revenge on their arch rival.

We are all just normal people on here, some have more shiny things, some look better in Pyjamas than others but we are all just normal punters, lets just chat, share information and have a laugh.

I think what Matteeboy lacked was a bit of self-deprecating humour. It defuses the natural outrage we all feel when someone starts boasting about how much they've got, or what they can do. If he was challenged about his chinese press-ups, he countered with the accusations of jealousy or the size of his bank-balance.

Not endearing at all.

He did start getting that, he did seem to have realised most of it was good natured and he really didnt suss that at first, trouble is once he had got it everyone else was on his case and it wasnt good natured anymore.

 

And still, some people could not understand why this p*ssed off so many people.

Seems to me a simple case of someone expecting other people to value the same things as they themselves do and failing to understand, or accept it, when they don't.

I respect the effort anyone puts into fitness. I'd like to be fitter and I know that with the required effort I could be. For various reasons I choose not to dedicate the required time and effort to it. I don't, however, feel that anyone fitter than me is better than me. If it makes them feel good about themselves then that's great, but if in order to feel good about themselves they need to use it as a means to denigrate others, that's not so great and it smacks of insecurity and of putting the effort in for the wrong reasons.

I feel much the same about money. It's great to have it and it sucks not to have enough but it is not an indicator of the actual value or worth of a person.

In my opinion anyone needing to brag about an achievement, or a perceived achievement, in order to feel good about it, has a real problem. I can't respect anyone who feels good about themselves and what they do as a result of running other people down.

People doing that on here get the pee taken as it's an indicator of weakness and round here displaying that sort of weakness is just a case of blood in the water. That's without even factoring in those that are genuinely bitter and jealous of anyone they think might be doing better than they are.

Spot on. When I posted that I had just completed my first 10k run in a not to bad a time of 55 mins, Matteboy pointed out that although my time was ok, he had just completed a 10k in 40 mins, which he considered slow.

When I posted my (now infamous?) Rolex thread post, all Mattee had to do was say, so what? you've got historical accounting data. We've done a lot better this year so **** off.

But what he chose to do was to divulge significant further personal information to address my questioning of his position, and then start a thread drawing everyone's attention to the information that he was complaining I had found out...

Talk about attention seeking.

And to top it all, he didn't even give me credit for being able to find out all that I did from just one post of his on that same thread, coupled to his frequent reference to having his own company

 

The irony is irl matt is a very quiet unassuming person, you wouldn't think he was like his internet persona if you've ever met him infact id go so far as to say he's quite pleasant, bit paranoid but pleasant.

I found his dd thread rather amusing but you could see where it was going to end up such a thread could only head in one direction and that's down, he knew what he was doing so really shouldn't have cried wolf when he posted in such an antagonising manner.

Just one thing, he must enjoy it or at least craves the challenge otherwise why does he keep coming back?

I did love the banter though that's what you get, me im nowhere near as witty, very intelligent but a bit slow so i sit on the sidelines and watch the thread unravel.

If it is an intentionally manufactured personna, he needs to grow a thicker skin.
