New RS - anyone driven one?

I do like your motor mate but I couldn't spend that sort of money on a fwd hatch.

What is is like in 2nd gear in the wet in a straight line on full throttle?
If that is OK, what if you have half a turn on the steering wheel and are trying to get out of a wet uphill corner on a rough patch of undulating tarmac?
Any lift off oversteer?
Are the bonnet vents functional or ornamental?
Can you debadge the RS bits easily?
How does it compare to a Scooby in the wet?
How would it compare to a 200 PSI Golf GTI not in terms of acceleration but in overall handling balance vs its power? Does it feel overpowered in comparison to its chassis, balanced, underpowered? How would it compare to a GTI as a daily driver? Have a 3 year old GTI... always shopping
Anyone like to make a comparison with a B7 RS4 or 335i in terms of performance, handling, body control etc?

in a strait line in second gear if you slam the throttle down you will get a LITTLE spin its strange iv had much lesser cars escorts/mondeos that will just spin for fun the RS is just diffrent it grips, feels like a 4wd
up hill in first it wont spin unless trying
ive never felt lift of understeer
bonnet vents are real
dont think RS bits will come off without damage/holes
in the wet you can still drive fast and be confident but i think id rather be in a scoob if in a race
its definetly not over powered ...............BRB

Dark colour could be good, but there does seem to be a bit of oversupply, and I just wonder if it has been a bit hyped? 6 & 14s to 100 is about the same as the old Golf with a chip.
Depends how well the Golf cleans up after its erm, nose job, after the wife took the bumper, grill, lights off, leaving me to cable tie the radiators up to drive it to be repaired LOL. All bolt on bits though. It was a really clean car before that

people are always comparing the RS with modded cars
ive also noticed the RS seems to be the new benchmark
as an everyday car i do about 200 miles a week and thats enough if you were using it for work and doing a few miles it would be a little hard
i keep saying it but it is a great car and makes driving fun again
ive been out for about 2hours just driving about tonight

I'm fairly tolerant to firm with the tyres on our present cars.
Would it in any way do shopping/cruising duties any less well than a GTI/135i/335i type of car?
I just don't understand why it takes 14 seconds to get to 100mph. Does it feel that slow?

Ford Focus RS Mk. II vs BMW 335i Coupe - FastestLaps.com is interesting given the price and subtlety of a lightly used 335i.

if i had the GTR id go for the BMW for a change from raw power
the RS will feel like a mini/slow GTR a bit raw when you want it
it has a pretty big boot for shopping
if your looking for subtle DONT buy an RS but blue can be more subtle

I'm pretty sure that the dealers and more importantly have ways of telling if a car is mapped.
The dealers won't check at service time or even a warranty claim for a duff stereo. However, go in with a fubar'd gearbox or turbo and I bet they do some digging.
After all, VW have a it more knowledge of their ECU and code than the likes of Revo, APR, Superchips etc.

It has moved on yes. My standard WRX gets beat on a regular basis by my mates VXR and I am thinking of buying a second hand vxr myself. I have drove a Focus ST and it was very easy to break traction in 2nd gear. I like all the hot hatches except the Leon annd golf but come on mate you have to agree that fwd is the worst option.
I do like your motor mate but I couldn't spend that sort of money on a fwd hatch.

A map takes a ed30 or cupra to over 300bhp. It takes quite alot of work to get a VXR or Focus ST up to that level. And if you want more than 300bhp out of the vxr or focus and you need a big turbo.
ED30 and Leon Cupra go up to 360hp on everyday settings on the STD turbo. Mines goes past VXR's and ST's as if they are going backwards.
A stage 2 plus ed30/cupra is quicker than a rs4 when rolling

What about the hatchback STI? Surely that must be able to do about 360 BHP on the stock turbo?
You anywhere near london or essex fella? Will let you have a go in mine if you are, as honestly no other hothatch bar the new RS tunes up like a golf ed30 or leon cupra on the std turbo.

I'd love a second hand 335 M sport Coupe but they are still above 20k. 53 plate M3's are cheap enough now but |I am worried about reliabilty and running costs.

Afraid I am from the North East mate. I agree completely mate but I am not interested in modding as I need the car to be as relaiable as possible and circa 250bhp is fast enough for me.

Thats fair enough. VXR's do sound better

Very nice rob84, things have moved on nicely then! Should be able to do very low 12s on the quarter mile with that.
Yes I've seen the Sky test, surprised they didn't go for the 135i, the RS sounds nice though.
PovK1, I've always thought AWD losses are overestimated by dynos because very few FWD runs are done on AWD dynos with the rear wheels turning and all the drag that adds. For example, a Scooby with the same power at the wheels to weight ratio as an E46 M3 can pull away from it at speed despite worse aero.

Mine seems to do the 1/4 mile in 11.85 (and it's 4WD )
