There certainly are some valuable old porsches, but the post referred to old porsches in general, which conjures up images of knackered 911 targas in my mind.

Normal (non-enthusiast) people will see an old porsche and think its cack because its old. If its adorned with any stickers, that tends to make them like it less not more... if they knew that it cost £X thousands they would point and laugh...

The really rich wear Black plastic Casio watches, and drive Mondeo's

You mean the Corrola Levin BZR Hodgy ?.I guess they are grey imports only mate. Why not try an engine from the MR2 turbo (245 bhp) although turbo lag would be annoying to me anyway.

My old MR2 turbo had very noticable lag, BEAMS engine might be a bit mental in a 7 (plus no lag)

The 225hp engines were early turbos up to 1993 (rev 1 and 2) the 245bhp engines came in from late 93/early 94 onwards (rev3+) the beams is a 197bhp (I think) NA engine used in a lexus (IIRC) and a few late rev 5 MR2 models

Here's what that fount of knowledge wikipedia has to say on the matter

Seems that this is a bit cool....

Why is it I feel such atit when driving it, how is it I have started to hate it, is it because I spend most weekends welding, removing or inserting the engine, fitting brakes, wheel bearings, wondering why its rusting again, wondering why it smells strongly of petrol etc.

Like Sheep, old cars look picturesque at a distance get closer and it all goes wrong.

As the 159 uses a "premium" floor pan specifically made for Alfa Romeo and uses a range of GM derrived petrol engines with Alfa Romeo heads or Fiat diesel engines. I would hardly call them an overpriced Vauxhall.

Infact as an Alfa lover i find your comments distasteful.
