£10 is better ... but add postage and the LIDL's wipers are 1/3rd the cost ....

 

Well the PIAA's I had on my old classic before it died were 6yrs old n had no sign of wear, no smearing n completely silent. So yes they are a better buy than the sh1tty lidls

 

6 years old and no signs of wear? Hmmmm ...... someone was swapping them annually for you, and you didn't know!

 

Even the PIAA's are supposed to be changed every 12 months, although mine lasted around 2 years each time.

And i think my motors on its way out, wipers hit hard on the upstroke and downstroke, but sometimes **** normal, any advice guys please, its a 1998 classic

 

Didn't see a response to this query - any takers for PIAA or other make on a Hawkeye with total success?

Update since my post #36 - I tried some cheap flat blades from eBay. Centre section of drivers side did not make full contact so left with smears in sight line and rubbers have deteriorated significantly - less than 6 months.

 

To be honest, this sounds like a slightly twisted wiper arm to me. The arm is allowing the blade to sweep up the screen due to its position and direction of travel, upon the return sweep the arms angle then forces the blade to almost "flip over" to it's other side of the blade, giving you that noise you can hear.
Common fault on most cars that takes a minute to fix.
Have you tried adjusting the arm angle yet???

 

Three different wiper makes - three different issues. Also, different problems on different sides.

All I want are some wipers which work on my screen.

Thinking of trying the recommended blades on www.wiperblades.co.uk next although, I suppose, I could try Subaru blades and kick up if they do not work properly.

 

Subaru blades are good, i have them. fit them and see how you get on mate.
However, if they book it in the workshop to look at it, due to you complaining about new blade function, and then find an arm is bent. You will be charged diagnosis.

 

sparco aero ones cheap work well and look cool

 

I use PIAA silicones on a Hawkeye and am very pleased with them. Although the initial outlay is quite high you can buy just the blades at replacement time.

 

PIAA, silicon prep pad at 70 mph you dont need wipers water beeds off hope they are same through winter

 

Well, I see I posted in favour of Bosch blades a year ago. Delete that.

I am converted, PIAA blades are excellent: quiet, long-lasting, and you barely need to use them even in heavy rain. Well worth the initial outlay.

 

what are they like at speed in use,,,, i have bosch aeroblades which are good and last 2 years on my car but they lift off the middle of the screen in use at around 115mph and more which aint the best feeling but they do clean the screen well on general road use

 

Assume the PIAAs everyone uses for the Hawkeye are the flat ones as opposed to the curved ones.

 

i just fitted sparco to the wifes pug 107 and they work great , i preped the srceen with piaa srceen cleaner then protect and coat from piaa anything over 55ish the rain just beads off the screen,

ive had my set of piaa wiper for about 4 years on the classic with no prob's but i always prep the screen as above after each wash????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

I've got the above, used just the blades tho' & fitted them to my old 'spoilered' Bosch's ...now as good as my old PIAA's!

Aero blades are cr4p imho ...miss half the screen at 'high' speeds

 

I've now ordered some of these as well so fingers crossed!

 

gdavey so ure getting the 17" 22" ones? Are they the right size as my old driverside aero one was 21"

Still waiting for my Tripledge Wipers (22" & 17") - says pending on the web site so, as I'm desperate, and need some urgently, I thought I would pop into our local Lidl’s (first time for everything!) and following SunySideUp’s advice bought some of their blades at £4.99 a pair. Unfortunately, they only sold them in pairs and did not do my combination or size so I bought 2 pairs of 21” and 18”. Still at £10 for 4 blades it was still substantially less than the price of Halfords blades. The downside was that only one of each pair comes with a spoiler.

First impressions are that they are OK and certainly better than what came off although not really had the chance to use them properly yet.

I bought a pair from Halfords recently, the knocking from the drivers side drove the wife mental . Bought a single blade from Tesco for about £3 to replace it.

 

No idea I ordered it as a guest so no account.
