Get a de-cat down pipe, fit it to the bits causing problems and remap it, then hold on!! Problem solved.

As it was intermittent, did you have your Air Con on when you noticed the drop in performance? My WRX seems to pull worse when I first switch mine on

Nope, it was bad at the start and slowly got better. May be the car had never had 99 octain in it and was adjusting its self?

The ecu is continually adjusting the ignition advance, if you've had a "bad" batch of fuel then the ecuj's now "learning" it's not as good and has probably pulled back on the advance, thus reducing det (if this was happening, not boost spike)... you'll find it'll take 2 or 3 tanks to get back up to full advance again.

ECU reset will restore the "safe" defaults, so will still need to re-learn the maximum advance settings (prob a tank or so).

If you ever get it mapped, the mapper can re-set those "default" advances so a reset will give you instant max advance (but obviously at a risk!)

how did you get on with this big_1? You still got the problem or has the ECu 'learned' the fuel now? Reason I ask is I'm thinking of get a de-cat centre pipe and new backbox soon.

Hi Big 1

You wont go wrong by listening to Mark at Thwaites by the way.

I have not heard of any issues running back box and decat without a remap. In fact I ran mine for 2 years like that with no issues.

I have since had a remap and is well worth doing.

However, I put Tesco 99 into my car on Monday from Tesco in Warwick and I had exactly the same problem as you. Car ran fine until the boost came in and it was hesitating terribly like a chronic misfire.

I have since ran that out and put V-Power back in and all is fine.

I am certainly going to avoid Tesco now, I have heard of other people having problems with this in the past as well.

Jason
