Conclusion was they would have prefered weight saving to power gain, couldnt agree more and another reason I didnt buy the R35....... you CANNOT have this as a trackday car without destroying tyres/brakes and putting a lot of strain on the mechanicals
Soon as I get the car I'll be on the Porsche sites seeing if I can get a swap for a day with a GT2, to see if I need to upgrade......... wife is already commenting on it! and I only just put the order in

You are likely to enjoy the GT3 far more of the time you would enjoy the GT2.

I'll be paying cash, though I was a bit miffed that they wouldnt take the £10k deposit on credit card - it had to be a debit card, so they could avoid the charges
I did look at a Porsche Turbo 2 years back but at the time, apart from thinking it was slower than the Scoob which it is (to 160 mph at least), I took great offence to putting a 10% deposit down on a car I'd have to wait 6 months for, with low interest rates I have less of a reservation now, though the Porsche contract funnily says the deposit should be £5k max - nice to see Porsche cant even get basic legal stuff correct
Just went onto a Porsche owners club site to check out places to look up insurance quotes but had no joy and did notice a certain level of snobbery on the site - so will be steering clear and just enjoying the car on track
I have an offset mortgage so its actually costing me about 2% on the lost cash (assuming the base rate stays reasonably low for a while, which I think it will at least for the next year)........ so £1800 a year plus depreciation, insurance, tax, etc.. not too much really
I need a reliable car and one I wont be tempted to modify
Always something going wrong with the Subaru and there isnt much of a 'good' support network otherwise I wouldnt need to drive over 100 miles away from London each time I needed some work doing...... I've tried a lot of 'recommended places' and to be fair they are crap

Should have told them to eff off not taking deposit on a CC. Have they got buyers queueing up to order new 911's? That sort of crap really pisses me off, i'd have walked at that point. It shows what sort of dealer you're buying from, i'd seriously consider switching to another one if i were you.

When you take delivery and as you're in Yorkshire a fair bit make sure you end up in Doncaster one day. That way you can take me out in one of my most favourite cars and I will demonstrate you can have exceptionally good sounding audio in a classic. It's about choosing the right kit and setting it up properly.
As for the Porsche, a fantastic choice it will be interesting to know your opinion. As you and I have similar spec classics and I'd like to hear your thoughts on the difference between a very well fettled 500+ classic and a factory Porker

I'll be coming back very close to Donny near the M18 Turn off on the way down the M1 from West Yorkshire........... may be a long wait, will let people know closer the time I get the car

Not sure about the cost of ownership of something like a Scuderia being double a GT3. The outlay might be more but I think maybe values will hold up better on a Scuderia. Who knows though, and at the end of the day some enthusiasts won't lose too much sleep over it.

I see a Lambo and although it may be "wrong" I think "****." Not quite the same with more compact looking Ferraris that aren't quite so OTT (612, 599) but the 430 just looks silly.
A decent 911 is compact, reliable, well made and very quick. Much more my cup of tea.

And that IMHO is the problem with the UK. People look down their nose at success. No wonder the country is finished and everyone wants to sponge off the taxpayer. I mean I could understand if you gave a reason for not liking the car, but to immediately come to the conclusion the driver is a "****" - there is something wrong with that.
It's amazing the difference when driving these kind of cars between the UK and much of mainland Europe. In Spain people pull up next to you and give you the thumbs up, in the UK they key it.
And by the way how can you call a 612 compact, its friggin huge mate.

FIL had an F355 for a year - I was insured on it. It was very flimsy and unreliable and cost a fortune to run, tramlined like mad and was too wide.
I see a Lambo and although it may be "wrong" I think "****." Not quite the same with more compact looking Ferraris that aren't quite so OTT (612, 599) but the 430 just looks silly.
A decent 911 is compact, reliable, well made and very quick. Much more my cup of tea.

I base my experience on actual experience, [I wish I did own one of them, although I'm not that fortunate] having driven the pair extensively. Fine, lambos and ferraris don't do it for you, but ffs stop being such a judgmental hypocrite.

A great many people buy these cars for the driving experience, not to flash their cash. I sit on my **** trading all day in front of computer screens and I don't see it as flash to buy something I like, I certainly don't see it as flashing my cash, more as a reward for the hard stressful and long days I have in the office. I know wealthy people that spend money on cars, and wealthy people that drive VW's. It's usually about a passion for cars, not flashing cash - the people that see it as cash flashing are usually the ones that can't afford them!
On another point and ref your point "money is not a problem for me" you might wish to remember a point I made in a previous post you wrote (you were looking to buy something, might have been a BMW, can't remember) about the meaning of affordability.

I looked at a second hand 997 GT3 but I thought I'd spend more, get a brand new car and with more power than would not decline in value so much
Its funny thinking of Porsches - I recall an Evo Mag article 2-3 years ago that compared the running costs/depreciation on Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche and concluded that Porsche was much more civilised price wise
Oddly I never thought of the GT3 really.... my father asked if it was 'mid-life crisis' time ala dom Jolly who had a Porsche and soon got rid of it. I have a number of German colleages also who wouldnt spit on a Porsche - they prefer high powered cruising Audi's or Italian cars

As for Matt, I suspect he's just grown up knowing the wrong kind of people. Seemingly lots of flash the cash "*****". It has, unfortunately, seriously distorted his view on, well, most things of any material value.
Bottom line for me, if money was no object, would be a Murcielago SV. Which would, of course, immediately render me a "****". Not that I'd care, to be honest

My comment earlier about the Ferrari was the typically staggering running costs. It may have improved on the newer cars but a service came too often and was into serious four figures too often.
The 911 costs about the same as my BMW 530 to service and run - if not less!!!

His mortgage has gone up 2% effectively because of the capital he has taken out of his house to pay for the car. So he's gambling that the BR stays low which will keep his mortgage payments down. If the base rate goes up to 5% then that 2% quickly goes up up up....
Edit - i may be wrong but i think i get the gist, even if i can't put it across too clearly.
Lets not let this thread turn into a whole pros/cons of offset mortgages argument though

Effectively with an offset mortgage you have borrowed £100k against your house. Very approx interest only on £100k must be circa £350/month? That's about £4000 per year.

Im not a fan of the 911's or what ever they are called, but I do like the new turbo's ! :-) Jesus what a lovely looking car. I love the led lights, the aggressive looks, wow, impressive.
When you get the car, post up some pics, be nice to see the one your on about, as I only know the turbo one.
