997 C2S is a very quick car out of the box. Almost as quick the 996 GT3 was around the 'Ring.

I find the 997 model range confusing.

Are the Carrera 2, Carrera and Carrera S all the same ?

The Carrera 2S/4S are wide body....same as it was in the 993 ?

The C2 is rear wheel drive, The C4 is 4 wheel drive, The C4s is 4 wheel drive with an umbrella in the footwell (its the hot one too)
The turbo is well.... the turbo one.
The C4s and the turbo are both wide bodied, although if its ordered from new you can have a wide body option on any model.

Thanks Tim, understand the 2S/4S difference, and an S after the number means wide body.

I've seen a Carrera, Carrera 2, Carrera S all of which I believe are narrow body, are they different in any way ?

After a little digging S no longer means wide body.

Planning on some serious test driving this weekend - and maybe putting down a deposit if the car feels right. There are 3 996 C4S's, 1 996 turbo and 1 993 C2S that I've got my eye on.

Suprised that no one has commented on my statement that I though the boxster I drove was actually quite good, much better than I expected in fact!

Let us know how you get on

I'm not surprised about the Boxster or Cayman, both very good drives from what I've read.

Evo did a piece on a Boxster v 911. The Boxster was faster around the West Circuit with both the amateur and the serious wheelmen! Not quite the result expected.

But, if you get a Boxster you would enjoy it until every time you saw a 911 and you would think, hmmmm, what if?

Having owned a 993 turbo, 996 turbo and now a Cayman S - I can offer some advice.

The 993 is a great car. Superb build quality (far better than the 996),great drive.

Good 993's are holding their value. 996's are dropping like stones.

The cayman is the best handling car I have ever had - the whole package is fantastic. And despite what others may say - 300 bhp and 0-100mph in around 12 seconds is all the power you ever need for driving on public roads.

Its not a 911 - but so what - it is actually the better drivers car

Cayman has the engine in the right place

It's the car that the 911 should have been albeit Porsche have kept the power down to avoid embarasing (sp?) the old girl ...
