No surprise there, I wouldn't believe a word the Governments mouthpiece (BBC) say about such matters!

Using round figures:-

Atmospheric pressure = 100 kPa=100 000Nm^2
Density of water = 1000kg/m^3
Accel due to gravity = 10m/s^2

Height=100000/1000x10
Height= 10m

Pressure is atmospheric pressure as when you suck through a hose, all you are doing is removing the air from inside that hose. The atmospheric pressure then forces the water up the hose to take the space of the sucked out air. Therefore the max height is limited by atmospheric pressure.

Steve
so if atmospheric pressure was 200kPa, then you could lift water 20M?

Yes.

Or if water was half the density!

Then we'd be looking at gas laws and it's too early for that!

Arctic is actually much thicker than this bunch of idiots claim. I heard there was an article relased that showed submarines surfaced, taken in 1986!!!!

The Yanks have been up there several times, but they will not try to break through (At least) 6 feet of ice (Pictures take by the Catlin team were of ice at the edge if the ice...where the sea starts LMAO).

the general public has, and will never have a true grasp on the issue.

theres scientific evidence on both sides and most folks dont know the truth either way

i know i dont have enough inforamtion to make an informed desicion wither way

That''s because the "science" has been hijaked by politicians. The general public are idiots and just want an easy life (Beer in the fridge, Deadenders on the TV etc etc). They don't have the slightest degree of ability to "do reaserch" 'coz sadly they expect everything they read in the interweby thing to be "gospel". Sadly it isn't.

I bet you could say that for what politicians say too!
