Exactly this, I usually ask what folk think of an idea. if they don't like it they can sod off. individuality is what makes everyone unique

well, after 3 years of fun, I've sold my Hatch...I got a really good PX on it so I'm happy. I've got a few bits laying around in my garage if anyone is interested...STI springs, STI front grill and a standard rear fog. They'll be going on eBay in the new year, but if anyone wants them let me know and we'll sort something out.

I'm not sure if I've asked this before or anyone else has but is it possible to retrofit a starter button to a standard Hatchback STi?
Scooby Regular
When you say retrofit, what do you mean??
Just add a starter button (lots of kits out there)
OR
convert to the OEM keyless starter button system ??

In an ideal world to a keyless entry button system, but failing that just adding the STi starter button, budget is fairly flexible. I do have quite a few other jobs which are currently work in progress on the car so I don't want costs to escalate out of control.

Having had a quick look at the wiring diagrams I think I'll get in a very good auto electrician who I know if I go ahead with it, there would appear to be more to it than I initially thought.

I got a 997 C2S...think I'm having a mid life crisis Its a lovely place to be, loads of power and amazing handling...different power delivery to the Scoob, very linear and undramatic, but it pulls like a train and it hides it's speed...I've had to set an alarm to tell me when I'm being naughty

They're lovely cars and probably available at a price that more accurately reflects what they're worth, truth be told I got fed up with mine. I was tempted by the Gen2, it does have more of an edge to it.
I think I'll go back one day, but it would be to a GT3 when the prices become a bit more sensible.

I pretty much went from one of them (Gen 1) into my Cosworth hatch. Power delivery is completely different.

Loved it for 18 months, in fact at one point I went Subaru-less for a while. It was a great car when it was hooked up, but I generally found it a little tiresome in traffic. I could get around 30mpg out of it on a long run, which I found very impressive and being a 55 plate I enjoyed low road tax and the insurance was really good - I think one year I paid something like £350 via direct line.
Mine developed engine problems, the check engine light kept coming on at first with no apparent issue, no fault could be diagnosed. Then it started idling erratically, and eventually it required an engine rebuild. The rear exhaust manifolds rusted away, the alloys corroded terribly and it generally developed a heap of minor gremlins. I found the maintenance bills for the car quite eye watering to be honest, things such as tyres and brakes were very expensive. Not unaffordable for me, but I didn't like it.
Maybe a regular STI hatch is quite unrefined, but my Cosworth seems a lot quieter than the 911 ever did. It's also faster to around 70/80mph though I suspect there's not much in it over the tonne, not that I usually go that quickly.
They're very different cars and both very capable - I won't even try to argue that one is better than the other but given the roots both of these cars have, I'd have expected the 911 to be worlds apart and I unfortunately I haven't found that to be the case.

A 997 is on a whole other level compared to the 996 and also to the hatch, quiet, comfortable, fast (not that the hatch wasn't fast) and the way it does everything immediately is refreshing, no need to wait for the turbo to spool or the body to stop rolling lol...and I can talk to my passenger without shouting. I'm sure I'll be back in one in a couple of years - I almost picked up a new STI, but it was too similar in its road manners

If anyone has one I'm after a coil pack for a UK Hatchback STi, it would appear that during a previous service at a Subaru dealer that the technician broke the connecting plug at the coil pack.
Rather than replace the coil pack it was repaired by using a cable tie to hold the HT lead into the coil pack.
Ricky Butcher engineering FTW.
Edit to say that I have ordered a brand new unit from my local dealer, they are only £90 inc VAT with some discount given so not so bad after all, I was expecting to pay around £180 having viewed some online prices.

First time with a 4WD and coming from a RWD it would have been rude not to try the scoob in a bit of snow! I'm impressed
I've fitted a clear rear fog, plasti dipped the exhaust trims and fitted a magnaflow catback back in September. Love the sound of the exhaust and now get the odd pop, bang and crackle! I did end up sound proofing the boot floor to stop a bit of drone. I guess with the hatchbacks you will always get a bit of that without a resonator and with the back being open.
I did an intermediate oil change and also did gearbox oil. The gear change feels so much better when cold now. It wasn't exactly bad before but just slots in with ease now whether hot or cold. If anyone's interested I went for Castrol Syntrax universal plus fully synthetic gear oil. A nice easy job just make sure you have the correct size plug tool and a Torx T70 for the clutch side drain plug.
