Finished result looks a bit like this...

Jungalist: I produced the 'overlays' myself as I work in the sign trade.

i digitally printed black at 50% tint onto a clear vinyl which I then laminated with a clear vinyl to proteect the print from rubbing/scratching off.

I then fitted this vinyl to the rear lights in 4 sections using a heat gun to warm/stretch the vinyl to fit the lights.

i had done some tests with different %'s of black and also red.

I did get the Red Lamin-X sheets but had already decided on the black tint by the time they turned up.

Are running these tints legal?

*** knows

I dont really care cos i can just rip em off if they moaned about, good thing about vinyls rather then spray paint

I can produce lighter versions if needed

let me know if you are interested? I can do a set for £40 delivered in any % you want although I would say my 50% black is the maximum you would want to go without having to worry about them being tooo dark for the police to tug you

The red rear lights look much better. Can you buy these in the uk?

How do you add a photo on here?

Exclamation codie247

Hey fella car looks sweet on the teins

BUT you really should get the whiteline uprated arbs before the alignment - make a huge difference compared to springs only...

I'm sure other peeps will say the same

Go well

Hi mate,

Rigged STI. Your car is looking great.
I have totally lost the love for my car. No decent garage around, so I still haven't had time to get the parking sensors sorted, the CD changer fixed and I am still sure something is not right with the rear offside + not happy with the spongy back end, the interior isn't as good as my wife's new allroad, just had a shot of my friends RS4. I think I might change it for an RS4 or wait for the RS5 then I don't have to travel 109miles to get my car to a garage.
Somebody please convince me not to.

I think I saw your car at the Ace Cafe a while back mate, is your car left hand drive?

If so we (me and a few of our Club members) gave you an award for the best/hardest looking car of the night, it was the twin air valves on those wheels that did it

A young lad came up when I was looking at it at the Ace and said it was his. When I asked him where he got the wheels from and he said Halford's I guessed straight away that he was trying it on..

Did you import you car from the USA and I'm guessing you has to roll the fenders/wheel arches to get those great looking wheels in there...interesting car

riggedSTI i love the look of yours with those dished wheels

i'm looking at a set of 5zigen +520's @ et37 8.5x18's as they have a mental dish but almost identical to the gt-1's i currently have.

no1 in this country seems to sell them for the scoob tho

its a reet ****** as everything i want isnt available in this country.

i'm after the front upper and lower 20th anniversary tower bars also, only from USA or Japan!!!

Ok mate, will do

You need to remember the standard STI is built to a budget by Subaru and is just a starting place, that's why it is so much cheaper than a new RS4 was (the RS4 & RS6 are on my wish list too). And the crap interior is flimsy because it needs to be lighter than the allroads (just keep telling yourself that )

You need to spend a few grand to get the hatch STI to be the car it was always meant to be, but trust me, it is worth it. The hatch STI is a totally different animal after you do the following:

Power

1. Aftermarket full turbo back exhaust system
2. Cold air intake or high flow panel air filter (CAI makes great noises)
3. Re-map by one of the better mappers out there

That will give you 350-370 bhp and 380-390 ft lb torque (an RS4 makes 414bhp but only gets 317ft lb torque out of a 4.2V8!!)

If your feeling really flushed add forged pistions, rods, head studs, baffled sump, injectors, fuel regulator etc.etc. to the above, bolt on a bigger turbo and go for 450bhp+ !!

Handling

1. AST coilovers (or other decent set-up, tein or eibach lowering springs are a good compromise)
2. Whiteline (or similar) rear subframe bushes, steering rack bushes, front anti-lift kit etc.etc.
3. Whiteline rear anti-roll bar with support struts (set on middle position)..front ARB optional..bigger front ARB works for me
4. Litchfield power steering pump modification
5. 'Decent' Geo/alignment by a Subaru specialist who has experience of setting up a hatch STI (they run best on slightly different settings to the older models, so beware)
6. Decent tyres (Goodyear F1 ASY seems to work best for me so far, but also heard good things about the Vredestein's and a few others)

Brakes

Running Performance Friction rotors and pads, with Hel brake lines and uprated brake fluid, feels much stronger than the std set-up but running the pads/discs in at the moment so can't really say how good they really are yet. 6 pot set-up probaly still the best option though...

If you do the above you will still have a car that cost you £15K less than an RS4 that is just as good if not better to drive...and it's a Subaru not an Audi

Just had my geometry done Really found the set up for me, rear Whiteline arb, Tein s tech springs, fast road geometry. Car feels so neutral, hardly any roll. Ride is firmer, but smoother, less bouncy if you know what i mean.

Had the alignemnt/geometry done here-

www.ninemeister.com
Porsche Specialists. Based in Warrington which is great for me. Great set up, great service and some awesome porsches would recommend them and will use them again for other stuff.

Well car all done for me now, for the forseeable anyway

Cheers

Great analysis Dave P

Once I got the rear ARB & links, subframe bushes, power steering mod, ALK & proper geo the car was so much more assured. I think it's the bushes that have made the biggest difference though - no more spongy movement at speed.

Not got new springs yet though - & now I've exceeded the annual car mod budget so stickers only until 2010

As for distance to a good dealer / tuner, I sympathise Othochris. The nearest good Suabru dealer to me is Prosport, at 75mins not exactly round the corner. I went 140mls to Litchfield for the handling kit, and 130mls to Stan Palmer for the Miltek catback. Them's the breaks for having a marque like Subaru, and being one of the first to own the hatch

Thankyou Dave P

I have just cancelled the RS4 test drive I had booked for tomorrow.
It is the handling and what feels like lateral movement from something soft and squidgy at the back that is doing my head in.

I am going to get it down to Litchfields at some point. I have the PPP which I am sticking with at the moment. The prodrive springs are fine it is all the other bits you listed I want + steering pump thingy.

Also a big thanks to Rigged STI, it was seeing another photo of your car that made me reconsider the change.
I wish I could get a ride in somebodies car before I do anything but I am unfortunately just to far away.

Thanks again,
Chris

Now got auto folding mirrors on ours, mirrors fold out when accessory position is on and retract when turned off, can also fold the mirrors in if you want to with ignition on

Still think the mirrors on these cars were styled on dumbo, theyre huge
