I need a set of Winter tyres for the hatch.
Toyo 953s seem good value at about £100 per corner, but my experience on other cars is that the sidewalls on Toyo T1R tyre are very flexible, not what I want on the hatch.
I really cannot afford going to £200 per corner for the like of Michelin Pilot Alpins.
Nokian WR A3 seem like a good middle of the road option at about £140, only problem who supplies and fits them, I don't want to buy online and then have to find a tyres fitter.
What winter tyres have you guys tried on your hatches and what do you recommend?
I am looking for 245/45x17
I am in Lincolnshire but will to go anywhere in the East Midlands to find a decent fitter with the right tyres.
Thanks

If you want to keep the cost down and still have a premium tyre have a look on eBay and Gumtree for part worns. Seen some very good deals on both recently for as new. I bought mine via Gumtree last autumn for circa £180 delivered, all 4 with 7+ mm tread.

With part worn winter tyres, make sure they have lots of tread, as I believe the effective minimum tread level is 4mm.
I used Hankook Optimo 4S on my Clio 182 last year, and they coped pretty well. I didn't have as much snow as expected around my way, but I didn't have any problems when I did.

Nokian WR G2 235/45/17 94V have been good, the past two winters and will be going back on again later.
If you buy from mytryes.co.uk they have a fitting network and you can have the tyres delivered to your nearest/preferred direct.

Going on the back of this I have a set of Pirelli PZERO NERO's fitted to the 19" GT2's and in the rain / damp / greasy roads they are dreadful, car slips and slides all over the place, in the dry they are great so looking to get a set of std 17's may be 18's for the wetter months as I don't fancy replacing 19" tyres considering there is plenty of life left in them
so will be after a decent set of tyres with grip lol, not sure I really need full on winter tyres so what else would you suggest?

A mate had Michelin PS3s on his 330S and they were fantastic wet or dry and surprisingly good in the snow - he now has Pilot Super Sports and a spare set of 17s with dedicated winters.
If I was you and didn't want the added expense of winter wheels and tyres I'd scrap (or sell on) the Pirellis and fit PS3s.

Cheers for that,
I have plenty of tread left on the tyres so didn't really want to sell and replace them as in the dry they are great but the are horrid in any damp or wet condition. Terribly unstable and twitchy.
Idea was to get a set of standard sti wheels and fit decent tyres for the poorer weather so will look into the ones you've suggested, thanks for the help

What's it off a Astra hatch or a Belmont saloon?

Not sure if Rob's got them yet but here's the link I gave him for purchasing: Cree W21W LED bulbs
I've had them for a few months and they really are as good as the pictures would suggest!
He sells them in pairs so what you want to order is 1 x White with Spot Lens (for your rev light) and 1 x Red with Astigmatism Lens (for your fog light).
The Astigmatism Lens acts as a diffuser so you don't get the very focused beam of the Spot Lens - perfect for fog light. The red is actually red and brighter than the brake lights.
The white with Spot Lens is pretty much like a camera flash in intensity, but constant. Unlike the OEM rev light, you can actually see where you're going in reverse!
Or as another option you could do what I've recently done which is to rewire so that the fog is now a second rev light (better visibility again) and the fogs are now inbuilt into the reflectors. They look identical to the OEM reflectors and still function as such but illuminate bright red at the flick of the rear fog switch.

just ordered this up, thanks for the link although the web site is poor, no option to pay by card, pay pal link wont work and the only option is to call or just send it off your own back via pay pal so being it late I tried the later option, kind of regretting it now though, should of called in the morning.fingers crossed it turns up
Usually nothing wrong with the just-subaru site, it's part of revolution's setup.
Have used paypal and card before.

Oh and if it helps anyone in the future, the company they used to host the website has gone bust and they only have limited access to the web page and can only make minor tweaks.

the WRX does look smart... BUT i think the white wheels with the satin white body colour doesn't go.. go anthracite or a bright colour
