Happened again
went to work this morning and smell of burning oil
got to work to find lots of oil coming from under car
got RAC to take me to a Subaru garage
not the one i used last week to do a service
oil was from a perferated oil filter
mechanic rekoned cause was the garage last week putting
on filter using a tripod grip the filter was dented were the grip had been put and it had rubbing on the paint (h0ow tight do they need to be put on)
this is the 3rd time this has happened to me leaking filters
makes me wonder if this has caused failure on some of the other
sti hatches
had to pay 50 odd quid to get it cleaned new oil filter etc due to the negligence of the other garage you pay your hard earned and get a botch job

usually oil the seal on the filter and fit by hand and turn until hand tight Job sorted, No need to go nuts with them

That's not right, especially that many times! Just two non mechanically minded ideas, could the thread have been 'cross threaded' in the past therefore not allowing it to seat correctly, or could something be up with the engine causing high oil pressure causing these to fail??

does seem odd its occured 3 times and yours is the only case of this kind

unless Rob knows of other cases ??

I would agree with what ABX says, coming from another non mechanically minded owner

Wouldnt have thought oil pressure would cause it to blow a filter, as they have a prv that will regulate the pump pressure so as to not cause damage to the engine.

oil filter overtightened can cause the seal to distort and the oil will find a way out. I'd be tempted to drop the oil myself next time and see if there is any damage to the threads which hold the filter to the Modine.

Hi guys just thought id post up some bits that im going to sell in the next few wks, i know its not the correct place but i thought id give a heads up if anyone is interested! so...
fully forged 2.5 long engine dual avcs, scooby clinic sc46 billet turbo, perrin induction kit (very nice fits perfect for the hatch puts intake down in the wing) also have a prodrive exhaust, AC, and a few other engine related bits, all of the bits have coverd less than 5k and 1k of this was running in engine. If you think you might be interested in any of it let me know as at the mo its all still together in the car so can be seen working anyhoo hope this may be of interest to somone.
cheers
Ps everything is is full working order im only selling as im just putting a badass 2.35 in and a big ol rotated turbo hehe

Hi yeh the engine will be ready to drop straight in and replace, i will have to find recipt to find exact details of engine build but its forged pistons, uprated rods, 14mm headstud conversion, nitrided sti crank, Acl bearings (all sets), cosworth baffled sump, also had heads ported and polished, springs etc etc etc i spent alot of money on this build. Power wise it made 476bhp but settled on running the car at 460bhp with 452ftlb of torque at 1.6bar. ( i have graphs etc) the car is very fast!As i said before the car had 36k on the clock when i bought it and i drove it for a while before i had all the work done so it really is fresh. If you would like to see some pics let me know as for price im really not sure so open to offers.
cheers

I also just tried it again there now and it responded immediately, however it said that my car, which is parked in the drive, was doing 1mph

Sounds as if your only item missing from the WRXS spec is the front grill.
What's the BHP/ torque on the WRX with PPP. Is it more than the conservative 251/287 that Prodrive gave the WRXS ?

I'm not sure mate what power it will have, I pick it up a week on Tuesday when I get home from offshore. Does the wrx have the same engine problems as the sti?
Cheers ;-)
