Fit a caik and you'll get a massive hike in sound - ie suction/whistling on throttle,
and loud psssht on throttle release

From your previous description not quite clear what's happening so.......

When the engine's cold fill the expansion bottle/tank to the full mark.

Run the car until upto temp and the level should have risen.
Allow it to cool again overnight and it should return back down to the full mark.

If lower than full, then you are loosing coolant somewhere.
Minor level fluctuations are acceptable as when you think the engine has cooled down it may still retain enough heat to cause the coolant to expand hence the "leave overnight".

The size of the rims are: 9" wide with an ET35, my tyres will be 245-40 18.

The "problem" as I can see it is that my car is lowered 25 mm, do you think this will cause the tyres to scrape?

That's the same size and offset as Rob is running and I'm pretty sure he said he's had no rubbing issues. Having said that, he's on coilovers, which although dropped at least 25mm, are super stiff.

My mate is running 18x8.5 ET35 (so the outer face of the wheel is 6mm further inboard than 18x9 ET35) and he gets a slight rub in the rear on heavy compressions and that's on stock suspension. He's having the arches slightly rolled this week to cure it.

Tyre choice also plays a part, Rob is on 245/40R18 Pirellis and my mate is running 245/40R18 Michelin Pilot Super Sports which are wider than most other 245s.

Thanks Neil for the answer. So these wheels actually could cause some rubbing if I'm unlucky, especially when your friend having ET35 8,5" on stock suspension...

 

I'm running ET35 8.5 on Prodrive springs and have no rubbing at the back at all, however on full lock in reverse the tyres catch the inner wing, forward motion is ok, I've had a good look and if my tyres were any wider it would be a lot worse, I know this as I was looking to fit 255's

Current tyres are Vreds which are not that wide.

 

Unfortunately Mattias, I think you probably will have a problem unless you roll the arches. However, it shouldn't be by much and you may even be lucky and have no problem at all. The only way to be sure is to try them and if they rub, either roll the arches or choose a different wheel. Sorry I can't give a more definitive answer.

Yeah, 18x8.5 ET35 can be hit or miss for rubbing, some cars have issues and others don't. I think it comes down to tyre choice and manufacturing tolerances with the body. On my mate's car for example, it only rubs on the left side and even then it is only by 1mm max. His chassis geometry is perfect all round so that can be taken out of the equation. Conversely, he has no rubbing at the front on full lock both forward and in reverse - at least not now that he's slightly modified the mountings for his Rally Armors which were rubbing on full lock in reverse.

Are you sure it's the inner wing that's causing the issue? Using Rob's car again as an example, he's lower with the same offset wheels (although at 9" they're wider both inboard and outboard) and IIRC no rubbing at the front.

 

Yep, front used to catch in reverse on the RA flap mountings until I replaced the plastic washers with steel ones, the plastic concaved when tightened and caused the catching/rubbing.

Now that it fixed I'm sure its the inner wing, only happens in certain manovers but stationary at 3/4 lock its pretty dam close to the plastic. Lots of tread on the rubber and I'd say 1mm/2mm clearence so imagine that with a bit of momentum and the from front dipping when in reverse that this is it, easy fix when I can be bothered is just to heat it up with the hot air gun and reshape slightly.

And thinking about it It may have rubbed on the back as well, but I'm talking once or twice in as many years so not worried about that at all.

I think you are spot on though with it being a mixture of wheels, rubber and manufacturing tolerances with the body.

I don't think car drivers with HIDs carry spares.
1. they are expensive
2. it is common nowadays to have to remove the bumper , then the headlight to be able to remove the bulb, not something that you would do on a hard shoulder!

 

Not sure if you have it covered but the French rules require that the breathalyser etc is the NF approved version.

Just been reading up on French regs on the AA website here.

Unless I've missed something there's no mention of it being compulsory to carry spare bulbs, only recommended.

And as stated the breathalyser must display an 'NF' number, whatever that is! However, the breathalyser rule doesn't come into effect until 1st July and not enforcable until 1st November.

EN471 Reflective Jacket to be carried inside the passenger compartment and must be put on prior to exiting the vehicle - the world's gone mad!!!

outcome was that there was no sign of oil leaks ANYWHERE and the engine overheated due to no oil in the engine, even tho I had topped it to full level a week prior - so thats 4 litres of oil just vanished, somewhere but they cant explain that and verdict is there just wasnt ol topped up - (i.e. finger pointed at me!!!)

lets just say I'm footing £1588 (does include 3rd service and MOT)

dont really want to go into it as i'll just get wound up again - feel like i have been bent over a barrel and **** raped but i just dont have the time or energy to fight them
I was told i was getting a complete new engine but changed to rebuild - managed to get some leeway with dealership on labour charges.

I really dont want to sell the car as the car itself is phenomenal and I love it but I have lost every bit of faith, hope and trust with Subaru services, warranty etc and dont want anything to do with them ever again (as I run RB5 & RB320 clubs its not that easy for me but its the members and individuals in the clubs that I cant just *** the clubs off and wash my hands totally)






so in conclusion guys, check your oil levels every week without fail and never go over the service 12 months or 10k miles.
do not fit any parts unless you get it in writing from dealership that the warranty will be intact (I was advised that the cat back magnaflow system wouldnt invalidate warranty by dealership but was just a phone call so I had no proof)

I tried to do a deal with a 2012 4 door but was offered 14500 p/x on mine and £430 p.month on finance
tried to do a deal with a focus RS but offered £13k as p/x

 

What do you STi drivers use fuel wise – and I mean standard fuel not maps for tracking etc? I have plenty of Shell stations near me all selling V-power but it’s around 141.1p a litre (approx 10p over standard unleaded). Tesco Momentum is 135.9 and I often get the 5p a litre off vouchers, also get the clubcard points for the fuel and for paying on a tesco card = far better value for money than buying from Shell but is less readily accessible for me.

Read a few mixed reviews including the Thorney motorsport that found Tesco better than V-Power at least in regard to power & torque. But testing was done on an E46 M3 CSL. Anyone got any views or is it more a case of stick in Tesco when you can get it and if not V-power?

 

Shell closest so use that most of the time, however if I have a tesco voucher will make the trip or if passing will always top up.

Always put fuel on tesco credit card so points earned there either way which add up pretty quickly.

Performance wise, real world driving you will not notice a difference.
