08/09 Hatches, Stand up and show yourselves!!!
Not a good time to sell. There are lots of MY08 Hatches especially 330s’s on Autotrader. One I just saw 2010 60 Reg 22.5k miles, WR Blue. Looks bog standard other than 18” wheels (MY08 were 17” weren’t they??) for £13,995 at a Subaru Main Dealer. No PPP but gives you an idea.

driving home last night in the discovery I get 2 alarm texts but saying no address available!!!
- great service!!
So i call chelmsford to see if the hatch is ok and to let them know the alarm went of - they said the car has its engine out, on the ramps and has been since last week, with no battery hooked up!!!

Mines going back to Slip end now to find out why the sill on the passenger side is retaining water. I drained about 3 litres out of it yesterday.
Whilst I'm at it, I'm due a 48k service which could be a downer. My local service centre is no longer a subaru service centre just quoted 512!

So update:
Subaru want my service book to see the service stamps and the front page with car chassis details etc before the consider a PWA??? What ever that is!!!

am i right in thinking that the 2010/2011 short block / pistons are revised and free of this ringland failure???
would they use this instead of an 08/09 one as replacement or just send another 08/09 one
if the answer is the latter, would i be within my rights to ask if they could fit a later revised one???

thats what i said but they need copies of the books so another day delay lol
i'm no expert but i cant see how no oil would cause 3 pistons to crack if they are trying to point the finger at me with the excuse of not checking oil levels regularly!!! and not topping it up!!!
which isnt the case as I carry a litre bottle in the passenger door at all times and its topped up from a gallon one in my garage!!!

A Saloon has appeared on AutoTrader today for £23,995 61 reg 2012 with only 1300 miles. That is some serious saving for a car that is max 6 months old.
Only yesterday I got an email from Subaru offering a finance deal on a new STi. Total cost over 3 years £35,193. You’d have to be nuts to spend that amount.

The cracked pistons then score the bores which in turn causes the oil control ring and scraper to fail to clean the oil from the bores correctly, so therefore the only escape is to be burnt during the combustion process and the cycle goes on until there's non left.
The only revision since the my08 ej257 is the crank has been through the hardening process aka nitride think that's how it's spelt.

do you think if a set of forge pistons are fitted to my engine during re-build this would stop the engine failures?
this is the 2nd now and the warranty runs out in July, I cant be stuck with another engine fail left to my own costs as aI simply dont have money for a rebuild, I dont want to sell the hatch but if forge pistons will be the answer then my worries can be put aside and I can enjoy it again.
if yes is the answer then can I ask subaru to supply & fit a set for me at their cost?

Mark, I reckon Subaru would fit the forged items for you but paying for them would be another matter, if they did they are pretty much admitting there is a problem with the standard build!

right , so next question is then, as i have absolutely no idea on this:
what pistons would I need and best place to get them from is it just pistons needed or other stuff too?
i'm not engine minded so i have no idea
Rob – plasma blue not my preferred choice and £27k still way past my £24k max budget. But if you get a white or silver hatch in around the £24k mark let me know pls.

I'm sure Mark would happily purchase the pistons if Subaru would foot the bill for the labour.
Personally I reckon they'd turn their nose up at the very idea of it.
Cannot see any way that Subaru would get involved with a deviation away from there standard spec despite all that has gone on over the past 4 years. Personally i don't think they have learn't much at all from the engine issues.
It's such a great shame that they have not been brave enough to recognise the issues and at least work with there customers to give them peace of mind. They seem content to continue to body swerve as many situations as possible and keep throwing short motors at those that don't go away.
It's a disgrace really and the only reason why i am not sat looking at another new Subaru on my drive (voting with my Wallet)
