ok, all but booked a date with andy f for the end of the month.
really serious about getting it mapped for meths but would like some more info.
how easy is it to locate some methanol? and best procedure when filling up?
i take it that the map is on one of the 3 idrive modes, what are the maps on the other 2?
what is the legality running a meths map?

carlos..

You currently have three 98 RON fuel maps........
Intelligent mode (basic economy mode only good for Mway cruising)
Sport - every day to day use (for most)
Sport# - full power developed at about 50% throttle pedal.

I "believe" you can get the maps moved across so I uses S map and S uses S# map, leaving your original S# mode for a new map.

Hmmmh... I did hear someone say

"The difference between the S and S# map is that full AVCS is activated.... Not so on other maps... "

Certainly feels like that. S mode old school throttle response / boost coming in. S# mode full AVCS with much better throttle response / boost.

As for the I mode - what an absolute waste of time.

True or false ?

All opinions welcome and maybe one will be based on 100% facts.

when my car was mapped with ecu tek race rom the fella that did it (pat) said the 3 modes made no difference to the map at all other than switching between them changed the throttle response as it always did! so are you saying you have changed the use of the button to scroll through maps rather than change the throttle responce? and agreed the i mode is a waste of time! i defo get better fuel economy on s# and the car feels and drives alot better!

When mine was mapped Bob gave me the option of leaving the I-drive as normal to control throttle response and have the two racerom maps operated via the rear heated window switch, I think. I opted to have the maps controlled via the I-drive so it starts on the S, mapped at 1.3bar and I can switch to S#, mapped at 1.5bar, and the I position does nothing.

Racerom in mine so disguard anything to do with the factory settings here as Mines been changed too much from it.
I-Mode is Like the OE map in the car, Hardly develops 5psi of boost I tend to call it eco mode, doesn't add any timing just runs like a Normal aspirated car.
S-Mode is my v-power map but on reduced Boost something like 15-17psi, still uses the avcs and also inputs timing as needed.
S#-Mode is a methanol 16% map, full boost 23psi Full use of the throttle pedal None of this 50% travel gives 100% as that's not what I wanted, Launch control activated, Per gear Boost selection activated, Auto blip downshift to speed matching of the gearbox, and a whole lots of loud pop's & bangs from behind when the lifting off the throttle

I source my methanol from Bonnymans in ayrshire, some modern fuels I.E Tesco 99 contain a certain amount of methanol already so all you are doing is topping this level up which is completely safe to do so, Best results are on V-power with the meth's as that has none in already If I recall correctly. By adding methanol you are in effect adding an oxygen enriched fuel so there's no need to run as much boost pressure to get the power, it also allows you to fuel the engine and advance the timing by quite a margin to extract quite considerable gains from it.

However, Safety first... Always wear gloves, and eye protection. Its a carcinogenic chemical and not a forgiving one. I've used it for 2 years now nearly every tankfull and cant fault it one bit. Its cheap its stacks of fun. Just get used to handling it and you'll be fine

Easy enough to source just make sure you get a virgin grade of at least 99.95% pure and your sorted.

Guys quick one, I have the touch screen sat nav in my 330s and I don't want to change the unit but the sound is in my opinion poor. What have you guys done regarding the ice install, have you fitted replacement speakers if so which ones are a direct fit? Had anyone fitted the sub woofer Subaru offer as an upgrade option on the list

Any help would be great

I was told by a local ice installer that the door speakers were actually not that bad so imagine it's the HU that is underpowered, changed mine too for a non uk Subaru HU which is not bad at all. Maybe try a sub so you can drop the bass on the doors.

i changed my headunit to a kenwood dx4028bt (video, bluetooth blah blah blah) and the sound isnt that bad, until turned up about 3/4 of the way then the speakers tend to sound a bit crappy but much better than the standard unit that was in there and at least I can hear the music over the noise of the car

after exchanging emails, i have decided against going down the meths route but still want to upgrade as all i am running is a cat back magna flow.
thinking about either a decat cheaper but possible probs with mot or sport cat (expensive) down pipe, and maybe cold air intake.

I don't know what speakers are in the 08 cars, but on my old 05 car the front speaker were terrible and I changed them to Kenwood components

i replaced the standard headunit with my kenwood 7021 multi media from the hawkeye I had

speakers are superior to those in subarus of the past

i have the subwoofer / amp and uprated all the speaker in the hatch to the subaru ones, were a useless upgrade and cost a fortune

Thanks for all the tips guys, think this may be a slippery slope. Don't get me wrong I'm not looking for a head thumping system which will pop the rear glass out but there seems to be no depth in the speakers, lack of low and mid range. Was hoping not to change the headunit as I wanted the factory look of the touch screen sat nav etc so think I will try the speakers first and take it from there.

Anyone able to tell me the dimensions of the fronts and rears?

Cheers

Problem is the standard HU is not powerful enough to drive the standard speakers so if you go popping in something half decent you may have better sound quality at low volume but useless the louder you go.

I'd either pop in an amp if you can to up the power runing to your speakers or as said throw in small sub like this:

http://www.google.co.uk/products/cat...d=0CFIQ8wIwAA#

Have taken the underseat sub route a few times and and whilst not anywhere near as good as a boxed boot install its enough to make a noticable difference as all thats killing your speakers is the low frequences.

trust me , as ABX said the head unit isnt powerful enough to give the speakers enuff ooomff

the speakers are very good once they have the power to drive them.

here's mine, i had people comment on the unit saying, that it was the standard unit fitted

Cobrasport in Sheffield do a very good sportscat downpipe at unbelievable prices - ring and talk to Pete - he will sort you out.
