If you are running a cosworth oil pump (or similar high pressure pump), it may be worth checking the clips holding the return oil feed from the turbo in place are working. Mine were held on using the Subaru wire clips and the lower one was so lose you could easily push it round with your finger, and allowed oil to leak onto the lagged up-pipes and produced oil smoke that filled the road behind to the point of almost zero visibility ! This was when I was giving it a short test blast (!) today, thinking I had cured the smoke problem (discovered Tues) by putting jubilee clips on the 2 breather hoses coming out of the drivers side cam cover, which had a pool of oil around them which was dripping down the cam cover onto the lagging, causing clouds of oily smoke behind. Now seems there were 2 oil leak probs.
To put a jubilee clip on the return pipe looks like a steering rack out job
which by co-incidence was on the job list.

I'm very sorry Immy, but I'm going to have to pull out of the GB as my inlet manifold is off at iain Litchfields,as part of the investigation into the clouds of oil problem, so he is fitting one of his plastic spacers (IIRC a Scoobyclinic typre, for about £60).
At least we'll know if there are any clearance/fitting issues !
The oil/breather problem seems to have been caused by a sticking breather valve under the main air intake on the manifold, causing boost pressurised air/mixture into the breather system
The breather system is now modified so it is non recirculating - just to the catch tank. Update on the GR journal

I was in my subaru dealer (westaways), and we looked up the STH10-001 and it is regarding some rust that shows at the bottom of the rear window, above the light cluster where the glass/rubber hits the body work.
They could not find a bulletin for the roof rail rust problem (at the rear of the rail) where the sealant cracks and goes rusty. Do you have any ideas? They are sending some photos of mine off to IM as it is cracked and is going rusty.

I have pipes from each cam cover and crankcase to the catch tank.
Where is the pcv valve ?
If you look at what I wrote it clearly states rust on rear gate at welded joint, I didn't mention the roof lol

So the plan is to not use it in the system, as when it does stick, the consequences are not good.

I hope the breather system to the catch tank will be sufficient, along with getting rid of the rest of the std breather system. I did this on the Classic and it worked OK!!! I think I'd rather have this breather system without the risk of the b****y PCV sticking

I have to agree to be honest, I have piped my cam covers and crank into a baffle controlled catch tank which is then vented to atmosphere, However I did block the pcv valve up initially and to be honest it was causing no end of issues milky discharge in the cam covers and the oil filler cap was gunked up due to the fact the moisture which would have been extracted through the Positive Crankcase ventilation valve couldn't escape as there was no vacuum pressure exerted on the crankcase. I then proceeded to refit the PCV Valve in place & since then Ive had no issues to report, no nasty gunk in the pipes or covers and the intake system is nice and clean and oil free.
The trouble is this country is too damp to block it off and unless your seriously flogging the car hard it will never get hot enough to evaporate the crankcase vapours.
for the sake of an £8 valve its not work buggering your engine up mate & as nullfork suggested about the valve I'd get another fitted to it.
Entirely my own opinion at the end of the day I can only share my experiences as with everyone else.

After owning the car for over a year and not doing any thing to it my self(already has AST suspension, full milltek exhaust and whiteline arb`s. Thought i should spend some on it.So got a set of Rota P1 s in gunmetal from the nice folks at Revolution
