They are alot of people who have the FRS on order, quite worried that if theirs is the first RS at any given dealer, that every salesman will begiving it a blast up the road.

I'd be shocked if they didn't tbh, I know I would !

Jeremy Clarkson has driven the new Focus RS. What a suprise it torque like a bitch

But there's no getting away from the fact that the torque steer is still there. I suppose it's a consequence of putting 300 horses through a system that also has to deal with the steering. It's physics. Get used to it. It's worth it.

I still don't think it will torque steer at any noticable level, my ST doesn't and I dont have Revoknuckle or an LSD, IMO journo's confuse how an LSD is working with TS and/or tramlining.

Then sir, you are a Tw@t.
If I found out every salesman had driven my car from brand new (and lets be honest, they ain't going to drive it slow, allowing the temps to reach opperating levels) I'd refuse the car.
Complain to Ford and expose the dealer to the local press. "Local dealer joy rides customer car".

That's my biggest concern with ordering one. One of the smile factor moments in the Impreza, was booting it in 2nd gear out of a tight corner. The shove in the back always made me smile.
Just don't want to be in the situation of having to wait until 3rd gear to get my foot down.
No matter how good the Focus RS is, deploying 300+bhp through the front wheels only is going to result in wheelspin in anything other than dry roads. My Golf wheelspins in 2nd gear in the damp under full throttle. And that's not as powerful as the RS.
I want one so much, just don't want to buy one and think `****`...... wheelspin.

Stilover - my Astra which has similar (but slightly less) bhp and torque as your Golf does the same and is otherwise a very competent FWD chassis. It's not just bhp, it's also torque that counts and the RS has plenty of both.
You can engineer in better handling but you can't defy physics - power + steering in the same wheels just doesn't work properly with big power.
I'd rather have 250bhp in a 4WD or RWD that 300+ through the front wheels only even if the chassis and drivetrain was designed by Dr Spock.

Is anyone else unimpressed by Fords straight line performance figures for its new RS?
0-100mph in 14secs dead does not seem too impressive to me.
In comparison, a 265bhp Audi S3 does 0-100mph in 13.6secs

I've been teasing myself about what i would buy.. EVO X, STI 330, RS (new one)
I've been reading a few things.. The Rs is a cool car but.. it's only 2 door not good for the family and torque steering is a massive thing for me also you will eat front tyres like the Cupra R's do..
the Evo X the Top gear review has put me right off even on the show Jeremy loved it!??! strange.
and the STi 330 the more i see it the more i like it... especially when you see it in Fast Furious 3.. but the tempted to take for a test drive and see what there like..
but if you got a spare 30k to spank there are some good cars about..
expecially as you can get RB320 for 20k now..

For £20k+ I'd want a JDM special. Whether a tuner car such as a Litchfield T20/25, or a stock import such as a Spec C, Type RA, RA-R or S204. No way would I want a tarted up UK spec car. The new T20 is a bit pricey at £37k but they'll be a good buy on the secondhand market, although Iain usually offers good trade-in deals to protect residuals for his customers, and add to his brand's desirability.

Not sure if many people understand this but the current VW/Audi hatches/tt's run HALDEX part time 4WD systems. This means they kick in at particular times- and many times they kick in after the car is already slipping or sliding. I remember Barker from evo testing a Gti against its R32 counterpart and saying how much better the Fwd car handled than the part-time 4WD car. The Haldex kicking in rather unexpected the harder he drove the car. And really Barker actually is a fan of 4wd loving the RS4 and the original scoobys.
Seems that the VW group have taken a really cheap stance on ultimate engineering or whatever set of words they use these days to reflect genius. JL

RS3 will be £35k+ with Options. 300-340BHP depends if they detune it.
R20 will be VW Audi S3. Very nice though. And owning a Golf now, I can see the desirability of a AWD 2.0T Golf. £30k with Options
Focus RS. Probably fastest out of all of them once rolling. £25k upto £27k fully loaded. Plus Ford Warranty backed Tuning kit soon available.
STI330. Look ****.
Ford, VW & Audi will hold value well. Maybe the Ford being best due to low volume and possible the last ever RS.
The Subaru will lose half it's value within 12 months.
Ford is the best value and maybe the quickest.
Audi will be very nice, fast but maybe overpriced.
R20 will be the best all round option. Not too expensive. Decent mpg compared to the RS & RS3, anbd will make a very nice every day car. Just not as desirable as the Ford & Audi.
I'd go for the Ford.

Anyway, if the FRS is the first one at the dealer, there's no way it's a customer car! You HAVE to register one as a demo to meet your quota when a new "niche" model is released. Of course, there's nothing to stop you selling it as soon as it's registered (Maybe even at a premium, as we did with our very first scirocco) but it's gonna have been ragged by other potential customers, and the sales guys, and the technicians, and the parts manager, and the . . . . . .

Problems with the rs is,torque limited in the lower gears so why give it so much power and so much torque, the 0-62 time is poor even for a fwd, the reason for the delay is because of so many transmission failures. If ford made them 4wd and charged extra for the privilage people would still have bought it me included. The base would have been there for a great car and with mods would be a hard car to beat.Lets see what the future holds redesign on the impreza and 4wd cosworth for the focus we live in hope.
And yes i do drive the hatch sti.Understated in all areas but take a drive you might be surprised.
Live long and prosper.

I was quite impressed by this comparison i came across of the new RS and the Renault R26R YouTube - Drivers Republic - Focus RS v Megane R26.R at Silverstone
It s nearly 75bhp less although on sticky rubber but a lot cheaper also!
For the record i still prefer the Focus and on the road would think it would be the quicker car
