the fuel problem and piston damage occured before i had the upgrade . with doing the upgrade and giving the car a bit of a hammering it's been the icing on the cake so to speak. i'm not blaming the mapper i blame subaru for not recalling the car and putting cheap *** pistons in it insted of forged ones .anything to cut costs.

im getting the engine rebuilt with wossener pistons and new conrods, it's going to need running in so the mapper is going to set the map to run low for a about 1,000 miles then drop the oil and put it back on the rolling road and get it upto about 340-350 bhp so hopefully that will all go smoothly

Granted in std form they arnt the best pistons but if they were concerned it was running lean then it was only a matter of time before it popped a ringland

yeah the bores were checked and were fine. he's going to fit all what you said rob. it's a headache what's happened but hopefully be worth it in the end. all i wanted was a simple upgrade exhaust 1 cat took off panel filter and remap didn't expect for all this to happen. subaru should'nt make a high powered engine with **** engine components

I cant say much more on the subject of the std engines unfortunatly as theres Spy's in the camp on here that would love to Complain about me yet again
I can however give advice on parts to fit to give maximum reliabilty, Built more than I can remember now

Nice one mate, I agree 100% with what you say about the std componants.

End of the day I was speaking as a loyal customer of 5 years and not in my general position as a daily job but apparently the freedom of speech act doesnt count on this by all accounts, One rule for them a different rule for everyone else.

If the damage was already done & the mapper quoted that it wasnt right then why continue with the session ?? Instead they carried on and now the poor fella has a knackered engine does he not ? Thats the way I see it.

But with an allready known suspect std engine it's only gonna be a short period of time before it gives up completely, I wouldnt be too impressed and I bet you wouldnt be either.

IM spying on here and phoning your boss to tell you off?
Subaru, whether you like it or not there has been failures that it seems you are unwilling to address and the truth hurts.
I saw a 2011 USDM saloon Sti with broken ringlands a few weeks ago.
It was unmodified with 9.000 km on the clock.

I find it staggering that in the 21st century a respected car maker can churn out cars with dodgy tickers. Performance cars like an STi should be able to LIVE in the red line!

I was looking for a new car in the last week. Visited my local dealer and looked at a new saloon. When i mentioned the engine issues he came out with the 'subaru say it's driver error, too much red lining the engine'... but the new one's have apparently been fixed so it's not a problem if you spend £32,000 on a shiny new car.....
Personally i called Iain Litchfield and got a nice 400bhp hawkeye from him instead. I wouldn't risk buying a new impreza until i know for sure either the problem is fixed or IM/Subaru will do everything they can to fix a fecked engine!

This should be forwarded to Evo magazine...
As someone just looking for a hatch, I was unaware of all these issues, and doubt I will buy one now

But can't bring myself to go for a GTi DSG

I wouldn't even consider a Euro/UK Hatch unless its had an engine rebuild - uprated pistons, oil pump and possibly head studs as a minimum, and a reputable remap. I wouldn't look at one thats had a "Subaru" rebuild (unless from a certain garage Carlisle way ), or one rebuilt using std pistons.

just a quick update on my STI.....
the engine is built with forged conrods, wossener pistons, uprated oil pump, bearings, uprated headstuds.
im just waiting for the guy to drop the engine in and he's going to put it on the dyno in 'running in mode'. should have it back in a few days

yes got some news. got the car back a week before christmas had to run it in 1,000 miles and check the oild and water every few days had to top up water twice didn't lose much and i didn't lose any oil.
when it was ran in a 1,000 miles it had to be put back on the dyno, i took it back to have an oil change and to be put back on the dyno but in the mean time i had a rattle on the exhaustwhich i asked him to have a look at it , turns out there's a baffle come lose which im not to best pleased about considering the exhaust is only a few months old but it's going back in thursday to get sorted and to be put back on the dyno so will let everyone know how i get on . i am expecting around 350 - 380 BHP

ok guys more news. got the car back friday just gone . the baffle was weldled and he put it back on the dyno had it tuned upto 370 BHP but he had to turn it down to 355BHP because the fuel injectors couldnt get the fuel in quick enough so i need new fuel injectors which are on order so when there on it will go back on the dyno which im expecting around 400 + BHP. it's quick now but when the injectors are in should be **** of a shovel, might even take it to santa pod on the quater mile

Standard injectors are good for 380-400 mate. Got ~400 bhp out of my standard injectors (08 STi) with standard fuel pressure. That was at ~95% IDC.
Would recommend upgrading your fuel pump when shooting for 400hp though.
Good luck.
