RA Dunk has made a very good point - the headrest bolsters combined with the WRC style mirrors on my car are pretty useless for reversing, but I did fudge together a fitting of the original rear view mirror to the roll cage, and so far (fingers crossed) I haven't hit anything (yet).
I also use "The Force" when reversing.

When i was fitting my recaro prodrive seats into my classic i got an old set of seats and butchered the subframes from them to attach what i needed along with some flat bar to the side mounts on the seats. Mines are fixed in place now as if i had tried using the runners i felt the seat was going to sit to high.

JRS Motorsport/Telford fitted for me.
I cannot be relied upon when it comes to spanners and screwdrivers
Fiddly bit, was getting the Subaru runners to fit to the base of new seat + very limited room to work around the central armrest. I think it took them a few hours (and they know what they are doing), however, if you have the right spanners and use some common sense, it is a straight forward bolt in job (not easy, but staight forward).

I've got Sparco Pro Adv seats in my 2006 STi.
I used Buddy Club Seat Rails, details can be found about three-quarters of the way down this page. They're supposed to be a direct fit but they did require a tiny bit of grinding to get them perfect, to be fair it only took a couple of minutes to do though.

Dan, you will also wish to fit a resistor (3.3ohm iirc) to the seat airbag connector otherwise your airbag warning light will stay on.
Whilst it will only advisory be an advisory come an MOT, I know how fussy you are and driving with that light on will be worse that getting it wet

with this resistor, will the airbag work normally, or just always, because your sort of fooling the system that you are always in the seat?
oh and where do i get one?
thx rgds Robert

You can get them from ebay or places like CPC or Maplins.
The sterrnig wheel airbag will continue to work normally. You are just fooling the airbag ECU into thinking that the seat airbag is still connected and if you have an accident will send out all of the firing signals as normal, just the seats won't fire because they aren't connected

These are what you want
50 x 3.3 Ohm 0.25w Carbon Resistors 1/4w Resistor 3R3 on eBay (end time 26-Aug-09 15:03:32 BST)
You only need one per seat, but you won't get them any cheaper than this
