Car running poor since remap!
Ecutek is a series of ecu flashes with live logging.
An aftermarket ECU like Simtek allows you to map each and every load point as you are driving.
This allows a 100% custom setup for your car, as well as giving the mapper much more control over the map and setup of the car.
Both can be carried out on the road or dyno.

First of I though this OP issue was resolved until at least I see the car as arranged with the customer.
I can understand a customer’s friend who also I have carried out work for wanting to support his side due to the nature of the way this thread is turning out but again I feel the way it’s been written it may yet again be giving the wrong opinion as it’s lacking the full story.
Chris dropped his car to me to be fitted with a Power FC and to be mapped by me, the customer supplied the ECU. The information supplied was that the car had not felt as fast since it left the last garage ECT and he was looking forward to the improvements.
Ok so a quick check over, and I proceeded to fit the power FC along with mapping the car. On the road it soon became apparent the car was not holding or making much boost, so a trip back to the workshop for another check of the intercooler pipes, actuator and so on. In no time I was back on the road mapping and Arrggg still not holding boost. I advised Chris that I suspected the actuator/Turbo was the issue iirc he was considering a new turbo at the time as the current had over 100K
So with the map not finished but a day spent on the car he was charged £150.00, the next stage was to finish the map on the new turbo which he would still only be charged for the price of one map £250.00 even though this would be spread over two days.
Only if cars where as simple.
Chris collected the car the following day and within two minutes of leaving the workshop he was back. At this point the idle control valve was opening and closing causing the car to hunt from 1000-3000ish RPM
A quick inspection of the engine bay found no faults, so I proceeded to check the ECU. After a little head scratching I plugged in the OE ECU and the car fired up fine no issues. I then re fitted the Power FC and again car fired up and idled with out issue. The first point of call was to confirm all the pins on the ECU which I did and all were seated correct. So with the car now seemingly running fine of drives Chris on the Power FC mapped to his current boost.
I can’t remember the exact time scales here, but I am sure I will be corrected if i am wrong. Some weeks latter Chris called to say the problem had come back and iirc the car was at another garage having the turbo fitted at the time. I can’t remember exactly what was arranged at this point, but the general idea was to get the car back to our workshop so I could take a look. Chris collected his OE Ecu which was left with us and then proceeded to swap the Power FC for the OE Unit in the hope to get the car idling ok so it could be driven here. Chris fitted the OE ECU only to find that the idle issue was still there along with a CEL light.
A few calls later I offered to take my laptop and tools to the garage to see if I could get the car running ok on either ECUs’, After an hour at the garage trying in the yard, in the near dark I had no luck finding the issue.
Some time later the car was dropped of to our workshop and I proceeded to find the problem. Now with out boring you to much we over a day solid trying to figure out what had happened here or in my words what “Spiked the ECU”.
The OE ECU was now showing the engine check light I assume hence the above quote. The error was lone behold the Idle control valve or circuit no surprises there. After carrying out tests with both ECU’s connected to the car resulting in the same error we proceeded to run a fresh circuit from the ecu’s to the ICV to confirm if this was wiring or pin related, alas even with the new wiring connected direct we had the same issue.
Now at this point and before this point in fact I am suspecting the Power FC could be faulty and this would be a first I have seen. As it transpires the supplier did not test the units prior to sale which does not help me confirming if this is or is not at fault (Voltages aside) as this is all I have to work from as the last point of change.
Now having tried both ECU’s with separate feeds to the ICV and the same errors, we have one option left at this point, replace the ICV This was left to last in order to avoid any unnecessary costs. Next day new ICV arrives, I fit ICV, start car and hey presto it’s exactly the bloody same as before on both ECU’s idle hunting
The Very Last option open to me and one that I was a little reluctant to try due to the cost involved if this was a wiring issue was to fit a new Simtec ECU.
So now at the next stage the Simtec was fitted to confirm if one or both of the ECU’s had been spiked or damaged. I Fitted the Simtec and the car ran perfect on the new ICV, no issues what so ever.
To summarise:
We fitted The Power FC ( Customer Supplied )
Car runs fine with me for a couple of days.
Car develops idling issues
Fit OE ECU idle issue remains, now with engine check light.
Extensive fault testing is carried out.
We run direct from the ECU to ICV on both ECU’s to confirm circuit issue idle issue still remains.
We replace ICV Idle issue still remains on old ECU’s
Fit Simtec ECU car runs fine with new ICV
Try OE ECU and Power FC again, idle issue returns.
Confused?
Based on the information above and time spent and the point that the Power FC could not be confirmed at this point to be without fault or the cause of the fault, I suggested the customer looked into another temporary ECU or contact the original supplier as I had done all I could to this point.
Chris then takes the car, I can’t remember what ECU it left on and i was to await untill the next stage.
Now To finish up and confuse this a little further, I called Chris some weeks later to see how things where progressing. I was then informed that he had refitted the Power FC and the car was running fine again with no idle issues, this was the last I heard until in fact it was mentioned by Kassam.
Now this is my account of what happened it may not be exact to the letter due to the time that has passed but I think and hope Chris will agree this is more detailed account. I would however like to correct one point in particular. The length of time your car was with me was not as you have implied, from what I remember your car would have been here for a week to 8 days in total. This would have included the original map days and the final fault diog days when it was returned from the other garage if I am not mistaken.
Apart from the original £150 charged for the map, Chris was charge for the new ICV iirc £220 ( Subaru Direct ) + £60 for the time spent on the car.
Chris, I had spoken to you on the phone several times and you had never implied that you wanted money back or in fact was un happy with the service given in the circumstances. I understand this was a complete pain and inconvenience for you but due to the nature if the above intermittent fault we could not confirm the issue 100% ether way, we had tried all we could at that time. Had you have returned the car working I would have finished the map for free in light of this.
I hope this answers any questions people may have.
Cheers
Neil

To hopefully wrap this up, having spoke to Chris today on the phone I think we can both agree the ICV problem was fixed somehow, the Power FC was reconnected at a later date and the car ran fine, no idle issue. It was then taken to Simon for the final map, I completely understand Chris’s frustration with the problem and wanting to take the car to be mapped else where from this point, and I am pleased it’s all working well and he is happy with the car.
Now please forgive me if this thread is not updated by me again, as I have provided as much as I can.

Inspection carried out & Problem all resolved by slowboy racing, car running as it should be. thanks.
for the poeple who were going to take the popcorns out put them back in
.

Do you mean, the issues were caused by you? If so, I think you owe Neil a bit more than a 1 line apology!
I really cant believe the OP started this thread, knowing full well that he had messed with the settings after slowboy had set it up. WTF was he thinking, are f him i know what i'm doing

Classic, lmao. Not the first time I have seen this. I had one guy recovered to our place 3 times because his friends thought it was funny to bugger about with his commander.
working in IT I have seen this for the last 25 years
whenever a user had a problem, my first question was "what have you done", the answer coupled with a indignant look was always "nothing"
and 99 times out of 100, the problem was always "fat finger" syndrome on behalf of the user

Noooo flipping way, I can't believe you tampered with the settings. I told you to leave these things to the mapper & you have even seen how protective i am of my controls. Will have to have some serious words with you when i see you & i think an apology won't go amiss to Slow-boy Racing. Sorry man but you got to do it.

From: Daily drive is a Scoob again - just what it should be!
Over the period of this post there has been several times I have wanted to comment, but decided not to.
However I cannot now keep quiet after the 'admission of guilt' by the OP.
What a complete and utter twit................to cause the problem himself, to blame the mapper, to come on a public forum and sl@g a hard working person, possibly doing his business and reputation harm, and to top it of offer a single line of apology................get real

Neil (whom I have never met) has my total respect - and my god has he got patience.
He remained dignified and helpful throughout - when others might not have...
KareenaBaby, I think now is the time for a little bit of humble pie.........
