Think I would tend to agree with Shaun...the 2.5 may give better torque but the blocks do seem prone to the liners lifting/moving and therefore popping head gaskets

If a (later) stock 2.0 Sti block, UK or JDM, can take 500bhp without problem, then 2.1 really does seem the way to go...wish I had with hindsight, as I had a perfectly servicable 2.0l block when I went 2.5.

It's called experience I guess

The bugeye, and blobeye sti engines all take 450 without issue, they make more power on the same mods the newer the engine I find.
My suspicion being the heads amd cams are better but I am not sure. Seeing 350 common place on ppp sti 05 and saw 345 on an 04 this week.
Pushed probably 20odd to 400+ a dozen to 450 but very few to 500.

Therefore regardless of whether 01 to 05 there should be no reason to not run it at 450 is setup correct and with appropriate supporting mods.
450+ will depend on owners assessment of the risk at the moment until more out there running 500 imho

The answer's probably here - the cams changed each year, and JDM had different cams to UK and US...a bit of a minefield really

Nice one, one day I'll get around to a meth map on mine and sounds like 1.7 BAR should be ok.

Cheers

Finally got my LM400 on a Rolling road today at Powerstation.

I had the full Lm400 package but I had the Induction kit removed and Iain put the standard OEM Airbox back on for me.

I probably lost about 15-20bhp but the car still made 403bhp Hopefully iain wont charge me now for a LM403 LOL

I doubt that Tony, i think for that sort of power the OEM setup isnt restrictive with a decent panel filter.

What torque are you getting? That's what really counts in the real world.

How do these compare to other turbos available on the Market today as I've fitted the sc46 billet to my scooby?

No one has done a back to back that I am aware of and the currently available LM's are not Billet....... yet!

The LM's are dearer, but I believe are made out of higher grade cast materials and the exhaust housings are ceramic coated as standard. Theorectically the exhaust housings will be less prone to cracking on LM's than most other turbos available.

I think Torque was 360 so a bit disappointed with but many of the 400-470 EVO were showing lower

Well Iain said in a few months. But also talk of Tungsten and Billet combination.

A very light hard alloy used mainly in aircraft and F1.

Tony it's not Tungston..... it's something else. I would say what but I was told not to say anything! You need to clean your ears out!

BTW... you keep your extra 5bhp and I will keep my 380+ lbft.

There is a heat shield and ceramic coated exhaust housing...... you don't need anything else!

Hi Tim, i have a LM480 like you, but i have a big problem to install it !
it is too far forward and sideways.
I have a exhaust manifold twin scroll JDM.
Have you had the same problem with this turbo ?

I know the bellhousing flange had to have some taken off mine to get it to fit - probably worth a call to Iain Litchfield for advice?

And is your inlet manifold a JDM or UK STi one? If it isn't JDM then the tumble generator assembly might make the silicone intake pipe harder to fit/align maybe?

my car is a sti 2007, also the inlet manifold is a EUDM with TGV delete.
I feel that it would pass in 2.5 ", but the LM480 is not like that!

you do not have any trouble?
you have pictures please ?

OK - I have heard of someone else having a problem with an inlet manifold that wasn't a JDM one - the JDM one has no tumble generator assembly so there's much more space.

And you definitely have to grind away the bellhousing area otherwise it will not fit.

I really do recommend you speak to Iain - he's very helpful

No photos - I'll see if I can take one in a few hours time.

Question

IIRC. 95% of all LM's Turbos require the bell housing bit ground off so they fit.

Is yours a 2.5ltr model?? By fitting a JDM exhaust header to a 2.5lr EU/UK STi will not make it the same fitnent as a 2.0ltr JDM. I believe the Sump and inlet manifolds are also different.
