I totally with Phil and the previous posters on this thread.
The page loading speed is dreadful this week. To be honest it hasn't been great since the 'New Look' SN went live.
Over 30 seconds to load a page is taking the p*ss.
I'm sure it's not my machine as I can view pages from other forums, and other sites with advertising/graphics like BBC and ITV with no trouble.
I have voted in the poll, but there is no way to update your vote or express an opinion.
To be perfectly honest, I rarely visit SN now as it's such a PITA.
Steve.

It still took over 20 seconds to load the page from the link in the reply notification email Stu. A slight improvement maybe, but definitely slower than the old style SN.

How can it be coincidence when I asked you for feedback as I expected my change would have helped massively? LOL
I also expect an old problem will crop back up, but we will see...

Give the man a star.
For some reason, the content server isn't accessible by everyone on this site. Still fine for me. I suspect the same complainants will now have now Post or RTM buttons as I have re-enabled the content server.

I am not a very good typist and don't always have the time to reply to notifications and then spell check at the same time as working.

painfully slow
such a disappointment that this is still a major issue, but I guess because 95% of the users are happy (read not complaining) then its ok
Incidently, those 95% of users is that the 90 odd thousands users, or 95% of actual active users
I am a disgruntled unhappy paying member
I hardly visit SN thesedays, bring back the old software and do some testing on a test system and not the live one please

i've never really agreed with having to pay for enhanced membership on here, but it's not really the end of the world. BUT, i would never even entertain the idea of paying for the state it's in now.
i really enjoy poking around on here and i like to visit virtually all the forums and have a lurk, but i just find it very frustrating to use since the big move. i still can't get used to the layout, i like the new features but the little things like the skinny page for example just seem to wind me up for some reason
please bring back our scoobynet as we knew it Stu

Guys, your talking like this is a permanent thing.
The fact is, Scoobynet was terribly slow before the change and some of the templates we have yet to fix are still causing issues. They will be fixed, but as with anything, it will take a little time as we have a lot of other things to do too. Behind the scenes the team have fixed in excess of 30 problems that were created by the update... there will be more tonight, and one way or another the site speed problem will be rectified.
Please don't think we would just leave it like this, remember, IB paid good money for this site, and have just moved it over to a very expensive server. Its performance is dire and nobody is happy about it, but be assured that when the solution comes it will have been worth a week or two of reduced performance as it will be far faster than it has ever been before, but with all its new features.
Example: PassionFord
(Click around and see... its busier and heavier loaded than this one and running EXACTLY the same software)

I found the old software to work at warp speed tbh.
And I'm sorry to say that PassionFord is almost as slow as Scoobynet is for me (around 10 seconds to wait for content on PF), so it must be something to do with the ads, or at least the interface between ads and my hosts file (which blocks the ads) when using this forum software - all other forums and websites are fine for me though.
So in theory, if the PF site is what Scoobynet will become then that means I can't visit here any more as it will never be speeded up?
I know it sounds a small issue if you're not affected, but its so frustrating to click a link and then be shown a blank gray screen for up to 20 seconds!! At least on dial up you could watch image place holders, and JPEGS being interlaced.

Do me a favour, join up and try it as a registered user. lets see if removing your ads fixes it!

I am a member on passionford, but cant remember off the top of my head my username and password (not even sure why I registered on there to be honest, as its not a site I visit, but I get Admin emails, so I must have registered at some point)
I havent tried it, but I might if I get time
My problem with SN, is that when I open a browser and open SN it takes approx 30 -40 seconds before ANY content is shown (and that includes adverts) posting a quick reply (like I am doing currently) is quick
Browsing the forums takes anywhere between 10-30 seconds to load
SN has never in the 10 years I have been a member been as slow as it is now, even on a 9600 mobile phone modem
The only time SN became a problem speed wise, was occasionally all the placeholders and static content would load instantly, but the dynamic stuff (forum content) would take about 10 seconds, but this didnt happen very often
It has made SN completly unusable for me which is a great shame (for me at least)
It has been this slow since the servers moved to the US (so its longer now than a week or two) I dont know if it is ISP related but I use Virgin at home (10Mb) and most websites are very quick (Canon photography forum for example, which runs on Vbulletin) and several others, even my own server at work is very fast using remote desktop to a Windows 2008 server (heavy on graphics)
Browsing SN at work is exactly the same as at home (different ISP, different computer etc etc) as it is at other places of work I have been to to browse SN, even on my Blackberry again another ISP its still painfully slow, yet all other websites I visit are very quick
This whole speed issue is keeping me away from SN, along with the bold issue, and a few other minor things (like not being able to turn the notices off now like before) I know you are working on it, but I am struggling to understand why you dont get the speed issues and some others dont, yet quite a number of people do

Another one for slow , missing buttons, and page fit issues.
I have to object at your comment Stu, "Do me a favour, join up and try it as a registered user. lets see if removing your ads fixes it!"
sounds as if thats what IB want??
IB may of paid good money for the site, but if they want to keep the members that make the site what it is, then they need to fix the problems.
to be fair i look elsewhere now before hitting SN..
the crack may not be the same, but i,m not waiting ages for pages to load, and then finding when i want to post, that half the required buttons are missing..
its the little things that matter!

SN has never in the 10 years I have been a member been as slow as it is now, even on a 9600 mobile phone modem
Examples that spring to mind: When SDB first migrated the site to VBulletin. Search was fixed (finally) and turned on, shortly afterwards the searches performed by users at peak times (weekends, evenings and every lunch time) ground this site to an unusable halt - this led to it being disabled until further upgrades were performed. Also when another site upgrade was performed, the "who is online" feature was enabled, another severe slow down was encountered. Again, this had to be disabled too. On both of those occasions, performance IMO was worse than any of the speed issues I have seen as of this year.
SN also ground to a halt when this thread: http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...5&page=1&pp=20 hit the headlines from the overload of guests users viewing it. This constant slow speed lasted the best part of a month.
Finally, not to forget the midnight wibble. Where SN would stop responding for a good five minutes after midnight ( I'm sure I can dig up another muppet thread I made complaining about that too ).
So, yes things are slow and crap at the moment. But I am adamant that this is nothing any worse than what SN has previously suffered over the years. Not that its a good thing, as it currently it is not acceptable. That is why Stu and IB are endeavoring to sort it out. But a little perspective on things does help one appreciate how bad the performance SN has been at various points over the years. And like back then, speed issues were resolved one way or the other. Just like they will be when all the current issues are eventually resolved.

Why would IB care if you join PF, for free and turn OFF the adverts in order to tell me if it was the adverts that were slowing down your browsing experience?
Why on earth do you object to me asking one of you for a bit of feedback that would take you under two mins to provide and help us to fix this issue?
