I've never had an Edge symbol appear on my 8900 and have done a bit of research and it generally looks like Voda don't have a UK Edge network.

PS, if you can get out of the contract and don't like Blackberry's then your next best bet would be the Nokia E71, a fine phone and a bit of a looker imo.

A great concept indeed and one every manufacturer is now trying to follow with limited success, including Blackberrys.
Full of issues I have to dispute, read through this thread and you'll find the list of issues larger for the Blackberry.

People get very sensitive when anyone talks the iphone down. Its a fantastic bit of kit but I had a bad experience, I haven't with BB's.
All I am doing is offering the OP MY experience with both, others of course will have different experiences. Thats what a post like this is for, to ask for balanced opinions.

With regards to doing the research, their OWN website says they DO provide EDGE in the UK.

lol im not sure that BB's have more issues than iPhones, each to their own, and whatever your preference and all that.... But the only issues really put on here for the BB have been losing tones etc, not crashing and batteries dying too quickly.

I have had both so I know it first hand. The iphone is one very cool gadget but mine crashed all the time and was slow when it was working. Even replacements were the same. MY experience of blackberry's is superb. My last 8800 went 18 months without any faults and my bold has gone since october without a single fault. My original blackberry that I had before the 8800 was the same.

Especially CPWH sales people!!

My preference will always be something with a keypad.
As for reliability, my BB has not missed a beat yet, and I love the ability to customise, and regular OS updates

I live and work in Poole and have full strength signals with all providers, even 3 lol.
The Voda tower here is deffo 3g, my Bold has 3g when I put my Voda sim in it, but still don't get Edge with the 8900 (it is enabled). I work all over the country too and have never seen the E symbol whilst on Voda.
Have done another Google and it deffo appears that Voda don't support Edge in the UK and that Iphones/8900's etc will default to GPRS instead.

Thats seriously bad then, and unlawfully misleading by Vodaphone if true. I dont see why they would put it on their website if not true.
Either that, or something seriously wrong with the 8900. Possible SIM incompatability issue.

Can be applied to all tariffs according to the website, well all except mine that is No sir we can't do that but we can put you on a more expensive tariff and you can have it then, might be able to upgrade you with a really cheapo phone if you agree to another contract with us as well
I'm now with Orange, took several calls to Vodafone to get a number porting code out of them, average 15 minutes on hold before getting to speak to someone each time having to explain again why I wanted to leave. Ring Orange to give them the porting code and was speaking to a real person in under a minute.
Vodafone seem to have really gone to the dogs of late and won't be getting me back for sometime

Hi.
I want to be able to access the internet whilst out and about and at work (where I can't always use the computers for personal use)
I need something with a decent screen so I can clearly see whats going on including graphs. I want to use it mainly for stock trading
I DON'T want it to be wifi dependant, it needs to work via the mobile network (I'm with o2).
It doesn't even have to be a phone, ie I could have a seperate phone and then some other 'gadget' with a 'dongle' attached to allow me to browse. It can be bigger than a phone, but must still fit inside my pocket.
The iphone is the obvious contender, but am dubious about apple reliability after two ipods that broke. I'm also worried about the phone capabilities of the iphone.
I need to sort this out quite quickly so any suggestions welcomed

Yeah do the update first, otherwise you'll have to do some of it again as the os update will wipe the phone.
Info here - Proper Upgrade / Downgrade Procedure - BlackBerry Forums at CrackBerry.com
I've updated both my 9000 and 8900 at least 10 times now without issue, even in a worst case scenario and you 'brick' the phone, they can still be easily recovered.
You'll need Blackberry desktop manager too, try and get 4.6 as 4.7 is a little buggy.

Very straight forward to do, and even if you think its going pear shaped, leave it to run its course. For a novice (like me) it can look a bit worrying at times lol.
Crackberry is brilliant for sourcing geniune OS updates, and instructions on using them. And also leave it a week or so when the new one comes out, and watch the thread for issues.
If you have the phone yet, add me on your contacts, PIN 254d4e45
Any other BB people, feel free to add the pin too if you ever wanna chat for any reason

Right, an update.
After my first iphone being faulty I was given a new sealed/boxed one. Guess what? The second one was faulty aswell! Same fault, screen goes blank whilst making a call and will not come back.
Now I know I could have just been unlucky, and even very good dbrand names develop faults, but putting this together with the fact I've had two ipods that also went to poo I have just one conclusion; APPLE IS ****E. I will NEVER buy another Apple product again.
About 1 in 3 iphone users I speak to say they also have problems with it. How does Apple get away with this level of unreliability?
CPW, agreed to cancel the whole contract. It will take a few days for the return to show on thhe system, and then I can start all over again, thank god.
So, I'm thinking of going with the BB Bold this time unless anybody has any other suggestions?
I'll buy direct from 02 this time so I get the 14 day cooling off period

Fair play mate, sorry to hear its ended that way. Fair play to CPWH for agreeing to cancel though.
I would not say dont get a bold for one second Especially if you definalty need the 3G on it.
After what you were saying about stocks etc, I have been poking about, and it appears there are some good apps out there for them.
Viigo is a great all rounder for staying in touch with everything from the markets to the weather
If you decide you can live without the 3G, go for the 8900
Good luck getting it sorted finally mate. Oh and does it HAVE to be O2 ? Orange have some good offers on at the moment for BB tariffs.

I know quite a lot of people with iPhones and none of them have had problems and uniformly all love it. None have had a DOA phone. They are some niggles (MMS / Cut&Paste / Battery Life), but nothing that they weren't warned about!

Thanks
RJMS, O2 no longer sell the E90, and I'd really like to stay with 02 and buy from them, their return policy is far better than CPW, Phone 4 u etc
What do people think of the 02 XDA Ignito?
Thanks

I wont regret it mate, I can easily delete you lol.
As for it not fitting in a pint glass, surely thats a good thing? Makes a great beer mat!
