iphone, blackberry, other device??
Hi.
I want to be able to access the internet whilst out and about and at work (where I can't always use the computers for personal use)
I need something with a decent screen so I can clearly see whats going on including graphs. I want to use it mainly for stock trading
I DON'T want it to be wifi dependant, it needs to work via the mobile network (I'm with o2).
It doesn't even have to be a phone, ie I could have a seperate phone and then some other 'gadget' with a 'dongle' attached to allow me to browse. It can be bigger than a phone, but must still fit inside my pocket.
The iphone is the obvious contender, but am dubious about apple reliability after two ipods that broke. I'm also worried about the phone capabilities of the iphone.
I need to sort this out quite quickly so any suggestions welcomed

iPhone is a good bet however I recently just bought the new 'Android' handset (HTC Dream). Unfortunately it's only available on T-Mobile (released on Voda soon) but it's a very good piece of kit... unlocked mine for £15 and stuck my O2 card in.... find one and have a play...

Im a convert to the Blackberry side of things.
Cant fault it to be honest, easy to use keyboard, good display, plenty of helpful apps for it, and the 8900 is not a bad looker either.
Personal choice, Blackberry for me.

I'd also look at the HTC Touch HD. The screen is 85 x 50mm. Runs on 3.5G or WiFi. Does push mail if needed. Can be used as a modem on a laptop.
Runs windows mobile 6.1 so will syncronise with Outlook.
HTC - Products - HTC Touch HD - Overview
It comes with some stocks program, but I've never used it:

Can be found on O2 contracts.
Very pleased with mine so far.

HTC manufacture a lot of the O2 PDA's etc, but have gone mainstream now.
Good phones, I just dont find them practical for my uses.
As for PUSH, a few others can do it, but you need to be on a contract or have a provider capable to provide the push service.
Nokia E71 is also worth a look, but out of choice I would go 8900.

HTC models seem to get rebranded by network providers, but have been going for quite a few years. I've had several of their models, mainly under the T mobile banner over the last 4/5 years with not one fault.
Flicking through this link shows just how many HTC models there have been under different names:

iPhone is the best phone for internet use. But for extended use the small screen really starts to grate.
I would probably go for a Dell Mini 9 netbook for £300. Nice and portable but a proper screen and keyboard, has a 3G modem built-in.

Only the crap one! For 1GB RAM and 16GB hard drive you need to spend 300.
If you're trading... all the time... and no it wouldn't! I speak from experience. Once lost several hundred in a flash by pressing the wrong button on a phone keyboard.

If you are only using the mini for very basic things, I would not think top spec would be needed really. Can upgrade to 1gig of ram for £20
OK I have no experience in the trading side of things, but surely a wrong keystroke is a wrong keystroke.... But I know what you mean about doing it with phones.
Only downside is a mini is not fitting in anyones pocket, so im guessing the happy medium would be iPhone/HTC etc, but that said, I would not trust a touch screen for things like that, even less than a Blackberry in fact.

Thanks. push email probably not that important for me, none of my work is email based and can't see it being that useful for share trading.
Dell mini book looks nice, but I could easily find myself without access to it for a couple of hours as its not pocketable. Therefore not a goer
Could somebody compare the screen on the best Blackberry (curve?) and the iphone?
Thanks

You cant really compare them mate, iPhone is probably twice the size. Not sure how it works when you have a keypad showing on it at the same time though.
BB Curve 8900
Type TFT, 65K colors
Size 480 x 360 pixels, 2.4 inches
iPhone
Type Capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
Size 320 x 480 pixels, 3.5 inches
Look at the comparisons on GSM Arena, thats about as near as you're gonna get.
One is touch, one is not etc.
Davyboy, agreed the iPhone contracts are not cheap really. Im paying 15 quid a month all in for the Blackberry, inc a talk/text plan lol.

As for any good, BB's thrive because of the qwerty keyboards, the touch screen one is a gimmick to me, dont like it.
A friend has one, and I prefer my 8320 to it, just for the keypad if nothing else lol.
