0.5 bar of boost

The restrictor works kind of like a 'bleed', the air bled from the BCS has to bleed at a certain rate so it acts on the BCS. ie if no restitor fitted the air just 'falls' down the pipe and the BCS feels no back pressure, if restrictor fitted air pressure backs up to the BCS before being 'forced' thru the restrictor which then allows the BCS to operate as Subaru intended. Where the air goes after it is bled is not really a concern, either back into the system or to atmosphere

No, it should not make a difference as long as the pill is in place Now i'm not 100% sure on this but, i think not having the pill fitted will effect the spool time Someone will pick me up if that is not the case

This sounds like you are running wastegate boost pressure. When this happened on my bugeye it was the boost solenoid that was knackered. See if you can find someone who can loan oyu one to test it, they can be had cheap enough second-hand. Also, the spring on your wastegate could be worn and not holding the boost. This is apparently a common problem on classics, so a new wastegate might be the order of the day.

Right, i have just re-rear the thread, and in post #1 you say
Also in post #1 you say
Which thinking about it (bear in mind that it's 05.30 and ive just got in from work ) tells me that the problem could lay with the install of the engine
You've had 2 different BCS's and 2 different turbos on, with i assume 2 different wastegates and actuators, so the BCS, turbo and wastegate assy have been petty much ruled out
So as and all the suggestions in this thread have failed to resolve it, it may be time to check you wired and plumbed everything correctly after the engine change, or take to a specilist and have it checked

There's always hope, i hope, otherways i'm ****'d As mentioned in post #20, you could disconnect the pipe from the wastegate and go for a 'very' controlled drive just to make sure the turbo is boosting
Disconnect the pipe from the wastegate actuator and see if it boosts up, but be very very carefull, no foot to the floor, just watch the boost gauge and dont go over 1 bar, this will eliminate the turbo being at fault

Mate,
I had the very same problem with my old 93 wrx. Every week for about 30mins it would only boost to 0.5bar, then somehow it would boost back to 0.8bar of its own accord???
I changed the ecu, boost solonoid (with pipes), turbo, all the pressure sensors, afm, O2 sensor.......and basically everything associated with boost control.
Still did it until I fitted a Polar performance ecu chip (takes boost from 0.8 to 1.1bar and adjusts the fuelling)
After fitting the chip it never did it again and ran perfectly for 12mths then I sold it and the new owner has had no probs either.
Go onto the General technical page, in the search field type in '0.5bar boost...' should come up with my thread
