0.5 bar of boost

this car has nearly got me beaten,so some advice would be welcome with open arms my car is only boosting at 0.5 bar and feels week i thought the turbo was on its way out so changed it last night hoping to fix all my problems but guess what still same old 0.5 bar i changed the engine a while back and its never boosted correct ever since but its really starting to offend me now and i need to fix this as the car really used to pull so well.

this is a small list of some of the stuff i have tried

1.checked all pipe work

2.cleaned boost solinoid

3.changed turbo

4.reset ecu

im sure iv tried a few other things but cant think of anything else at the moment

oh and for some reson my boost gauge is teed off in to the acuator pipe for some reson it was like it when i got the car would this cause a problem

what boost are you expecting?

batmanwrx 25 February 2009 12:35 PM

0.9 jap wrx

fcuk1_6 25 February 2009 12:45 PM

it could be running limp home mode, is ecu showing any stored fault codes or is check engine light coming on at any time?

fcuk1_6 25 February 2009 12:48 PM

how to read codes: Scoobypedia | Trusted knowledge for everything Subaru | Knowledge / Reading ECU Fault Codes

what they mean:

Agree with fcuk sounds like your in limp home mode, will give 0.5 bar of boost until errors are cleared or fixed, as he says check for codes and see what comes up

steven

Yeah, get it teed off at one of the 3 ports on the manifold, got mine on the middle one :thumb: Actuator piping reknowned for giving false reading ;)

i had a similar problem with my 2001 wrx, i cleaned the solenoid as discribed put it back on and the car would only boost to 7 psi which is about 0.5 bar. what i did was to take of the pipe to the actuator and block the end of the pipe up then ran the car VERY carefully no foot to floor to see if the car would boost and it did, so if the solenoid is not working it opens up the wastegate to early hence not alot of boost. replaced the solenoid car works fine hope this may help

batmanwrx 25 February 2009 04:15 PM

surely when i reset the ecu it would have cleared all the faults if any ther check engine light has never came

batmanwrx 25 February 2009 04:33 PM

it also seems to boost late not really from the 2600rpm are starts to boost from about 3200rpm

the 2 pipes that come of the boost solinoid where are they ment to go to and where is the restrictor pill located

thats the badger im going to borrow a new solinoid and give that a go

BigBez 25 February 2009 07:03 PM

no way i had similar problem just today !

for some reason past 2 days car hasn't been pulling at all theres no kickin from the turbo

so this morning i looked at the boost gauge and it was only boosting at 0.5 bar. anyway on the way home from work got the temps nice n warm nailed down the motorway and as if by magic it was boosting again, i changed nothing ! ( in lower gears it was 0.7 (( which is what i used to get )) and in higher gears it went up to 0.8 bar for some reason )

anyway gauge is saying 0.7 bar like i used to get when it was good, my car is sposed to be 0.82/3 bar standard but i put it down to gauges not 100 percent accurate.

i have the 3port boost solenoid as standard on 1995 wrx imports

scoobysmiff 25 February 2009 08:17 PM

let me know how you get on mate?

galli RA 25 February 2009 08:52 PM

could be actuator m8 or air flow meter.

batmanwrx 25 February 2009 09:19 PM

smudge i had to use my pipes with your solinoid but still not really any better going to take my pipe work off and give it a good clean with brake cleaner this is starting to pee me off now grrrrr

batmanwrx 25 February 2009 10:47 PM

could any one coment on that pic should the restrictor not be in the actuator pipe i checked my car and it does not seem to have a retrictor pill what problems would this cause if any

batmanwrx 25 February 2009 11:47 PM

anybody

DCurtis12 26 February 2009 08:41 AM

did u try disconecting the actuator hose to see if the car would boost?

batmanwrx 26 February 2009 08:49 AM

btt

batmanwrx 26 February 2009 08:50 AM

no could you talk me through that

No, the restrictor is only in the actuator pipe on the later 2 port solenoids, the pic is correct :thumb: The fact that you do not have one fitted could be the cause of your problems, they are available from main stealers for pennies:thumb:

scoobysmiff 26 February 2009 05:44 PM

there is a pill in my pipes though is there not mate? see if you can get it out and try it or try and get the pipe to fit with it in

batmanwrx 26 February 2009 11:46 PM

i thought the pill went in to the actuator i put it there and my car seemed to boost a little better ill have to try put it in to resinator pipe and also where my resinator pipe goes in to there is just a hole for the pipe to slide in to would that cause me any problems what is the main function of the resinator

batmanwrx 27 February 2009 10:13 AM

bttt

myblackwrx 27 February 2009 10:31 AM

The resonator keeps the noise down.
Have you changed the boost solenoid for one that definately works?

batmanwrx 27 February 2009 11:52 AM

yes i have

batmanwrx 27 February 2009 11:53 AM

what about the pipe that goes in to the resonator from the bottom of the boost solinoid

Sounds like the nipple has been snapped off the res box, blank off the hole on the res box to prevent dirty/unmetered air being drawn in after the MAF and leave the pipe from the BCS to vent to atmosphere, that will be fine:thumb:
