Project Track Car: Subaru Impreza Classic
I got something else through the post today to put in this weekend (its getting there now, cant wait to have it finished and out on track)
- Brake cutting/flare/bending tools - to remove abs and re-pipe in/fit bias valve
- Harnesses - thanks to mbayley77

Just got back from seeing Alyn @ ASP while he tries to find me some new bleed nipples and some performance pads for my unknown brand callipers
Now i'm in two minds whether to get the brake support bracket i keep seeing pop up on the forum.

Another weekend has now passed and im still hacking away at this bloody sound deadning (wish i never started it now, its a right pain in the ****) but ive nearly filled half a bin bag full of the stuff and my god there's some weight in it
Passenger side pretty much finished now, just a little bit left on the rear seam:

Also did a fair wack of the rear bench:

And what the cars looking like atm from the outside:

If you are tracking it with slicks seriously thnk about an Accusump or baffled sump for oil starvation- the oil cooler helps just give the system more volume, but you dont want to kill the engine.
I have also fitted a Spa oil pressure and temp gauge, which is a very nice piece of kit, and has an output for an external warning light, which I have fitted in my instrument dash- nice and bright and in my face! I have it set at 30 psi to give me a chance to do something if its an issue.

There are a few people on here running slicks and standard sumps and not had bother at all. But to be fair, i have gauges and warning lamps, and nothing popped up on the last track day
The slicks and oil sump comment is due to the extra G's you can pull on slicks- either way looks a good project and not too dissimilar an idea to mine (I struggled to get a new 6 point cage in mine, so understand your cage woes earlier!)
im so glad its in now... you should have seen me trying to get it in... was tempted by the sledge hammer i found in the garage
But as soon as you get that right angle, it just slides right in
Yep- usually after you have just scratched part of the interior in my case
Check your door card fit OK- my rear doors are a little squashed on the handles- need carbon or fibreglass door cards, but they seem to work out about 600 for a 4 door, which is a little steep after everything I else I have spent!

Mine was after putting a couple of outwards dents in the roof :'(
No door cards in the back of mine, completely stripped now, but there was a couple of mm clearance when i did have them fitted.
Lucky for me, my lasses family own a steel drum factory, so im getting some light weight metal for the door cards now
Will also be using some of that to cover up some of the holes in the floor now.

Nice- Im doing our local hill climbs and still running in production class, so all my interior is still there for the moment anyway.
It also means I just use production tyres, which keeps one cost down anyway.

Another Sunday's work on it before Sunday dinner... tried ice, and didnt work much better then what we were doing before (saying that, it was bloody freezing in the garage as it was), so I stuck to what we were doing before (even my lass was involved at the end )
I now have managed to get every last spec of the stuff off the passenger rear footwell, used thinners to get rid of all the brown gluey stuff that was left, while i was doing this, my lass had the hammer and chisel working on the drivers side.

I also got my new Ferodo Race Pads (FCP817H - For what i now know are Girling callipers that are fitted to the front of the car) - Thanks to ASP for sorting these out for me
Also got some new bleed nipples for the rear callipers (as one of them had seized up with dirt and grit) but that wasn't an easy task as they're metric fitment - again thanks to ASP for sorting these too
Not much more I need to do after this (yea right):
- Paint inside the car - where sound deadening has been removed
- Move Oil Cooler - Will be going behind the top front grill
- Heat wrap front headers - Will have to do this while they are fitted to car, as cannot remove them as headers and up pipe are all connected and have no idea how anyone got a wratchet up there to fit the up pipe
- Remove dash and flock
- Remove ABS and fit BIAS valve
Maybe start to remove some of the obsolete wiring from the car
I have now decided I want to get all this finished before Japfest, as I would like to take this on track then (15th May)

I've not weighed it as of yet, but I've nearly filled a large bin bag full of the stuff... I would say its around 90-100kg at least (which is a fair wack)
When I first started picking it off, I didn't think it would weigh much.
Next time I'm down at the garage, ill take the scales down and pop them on there

Work continues, as there's something new I attempt this week, and here's what im doing, in pictures:

The dash was quite easy to take out (seeing as I already had most of it stripped off, it was just a few cables I had to cut off (Some dodgy wiring under there for the alarm system) but apart from them, the rest of the wires just unplugged.
I striped down the parts of the dash i no longer need (passenger/drivers side air venting) and removed the wiring from the dash (will be re-routing the wiring)
I got the flocking kit from Classic car restoration, kit cars and motorcycle restoration tools and equipment - Frost Auto 1 black flocking kit with one spare gue and one spare flock (you dont need a spare glue as i only used less then half my bottle on the dash - although you do deffo need a spare bag of flock)
And i tell you what, never again, what a pain in the ****, the bottle kept getting blocked up and then you would always find a piece you missed to glue, but now that I'm finished it looks quite good (will see what its like after i dust off the over spray of flock)
Don't think I'll be going to the car tomorrow, so no more sound deadening removal this weekend I don't think

Aye its all over the place, just spent an hour hoovering and mopping up all the over-flock, it gets everywhere!
So now the dash has been left for 48 hours pretty much, took a hoover to it to get the last bits that havent stuck down off, and put the air ducts back in (well for the windows only, as the roll cage sits infront of the passenger / drivers air vents - so ive left them off)
Here's how it looks now, with the support bar bolted back on, and the wiring harness (which ill be chopping when i get back to the car as I dont need things like the stereo)
Oh and a nice clean floor lol

Mine was 9.6kg. Horrible job as you have found out
