It can get a bit lively yes just because of its size it creates a big disturbance in the water when it gets jumpy. I got my local fish shop to move my tank when we moved house and rather him than me picking it up, it went nuts and those are spines on its dorsal fin which allegedly sting
It's an algae eater though so not a nipper when you put your hand in the tank.

Where does he go in the tank, obstructions, small holes etc...
What do you feed him ? a bloody big cow every day
What is your thermostat set too ? (looks too hot which won't help)
I wouldnt want to see him on a dark night eeeekkk

Does he rub on the gravel at all ?
Do the fish nip at the exposed flesh ?
The initial problem is often masked by other things, but start with water changes and whatever softener/de-stress you use with changes. Consciously don't overfeed and makes sure the thermostat is turned down to 23-24. Tanks overheat in houses. I actually run mine +/-22 as the heat of the house keeps it at or below 25.

No they dont seem to, I cant change the water without stressing the fish ...
I'll do a half tank change tomorrow... or should I just take a sample?

To be honest i'm not surprised as those marks looked like severe skin burns/infection. However you still need to get down the local fish shop and get a water test done to make sure that fish wasn't a warning that the other fish could start going the same way.
Either way you will know if it was a sick fish and the water is fine or the water is dangerous in terms of kh and ph values and needs sorting.

Plecs come from the Amazon so are used to low pH,I think your other fish would have shown problems before a Plec.
It looks like a bacterial problem, while you are at your Aquatic shop ask for a Anti-bacterial treatment.
Do you use a gravel cleaner when you do get around to water changing? If not,get one of those while you are there.
Bacteria builds up in dirty substrate and Plecs being a hoover will suck up loads of it.Do a water change while cleaning the gravel, refill with dechlorinated warm water and treat with the remedy, reduce feeding for a week as the treatment will kill some of the good bacteria in your filter.
The solution to the pollution is by dilution.

sorry matey about the bad news, i love plecs!
I've bred bristlenose last batch being about 100 babies, i transferred most of them to my very large tank in the conservatory and the heater broke whilst i was away on holiday and they all died, even though i had family to look after them (not experienced enough).
Next batch will be the LFS.
Lovely fish to have and they keep the tank clean, just make sure the water is in tip top shape and make regular water changes.

Yes that will be dechlorinator, never put plain tap water into a filtered fish tank as the chlorine in tap water will destroy all the good bacteria in your filters which break down the fish waste. If you lose that bacteria the water becomes poisonous to the fish very quickly.
