Why are Remaps so expensive?

Not that simple !
Jamesemt had his Ibiza TDi mapped a la petrol, dual mass flywheel could cope with 400 lb.ft. at tick-over.... so he asked for less at low revs and more at higher revs.
Mapper did it in seconds and he's very happy with the way it pulls towards the red-line. (4000 rpm ?
).
Still cost less than half my re-map did !

you also need to factor in the cost of the mappers hardware etc etc
widebands do not last forever
not everybody has a flashable stock ecu and sometimes they need to buy new software+leads to work on different cars.
i can not remember the costs properly now, but off the top of my head it cost me approx £150ish for the wideband + controller £200 for a second hand apexi ecu and around £170ish for the apexi software + dongle/lead, i then spent a LONG time + around 4 full tanks of juice learning what the hell i and gotten myself into
the average chap in the street still gets good value IMO from going to a well known mapper and paying around £500-600 all in.
i only did it my way because i wanted to learn how to do it and look dead good
i am also a right bellend when it comes to looking smug at people, the same people who thought i would never be able to do it 
(you know who you are lol)
if i was mapping other peoples cars i could make the expense back in time, but i don't fancy that for various reasons.
it does mean that i now know what i am doing, i learned quite a bit, which was the main goal and any car in the future i can dabble with as long as i have means to hook up the lappy
when ever i drive my car now i look on the engine totally different, its really bizzare, i can pretty much see where i am in the map at any given time, a bit like neo seeing everything in code in the matrix only totally nothing like it lmfao!
