Just my opinion of course - but I'm in the good brakes/tyres camp.(No I dont drive a pink EVO!)
I believe you get what you pay for too. If you havn't had the tyres losing grip, then you havn't driven hard enough to be the judge of whether they're good or not in the wet.

Ive switched from goodyears to 452's and to be honest the grip level isnt that much different between the two. I have an off camber left hander near me which will unsettle any car and i can get equally sidways on either tyre. As for lasting two years and not gripping, the goodyears i had were fitted in april 2007 so nearly did 2 years and 14000miles including a trip to the ring. So Ive used both to the limit in wet and dry and the only difference i can really find is the price.

everyone who suggested these tyres were good are wrong, sorry but you are.
Thet are **** for anything other than the motorway journey to work and then only in the dry.
If you choose to do anything other than this then you are on borrowed time.
They are pretty unpredictable in when they go off, but oh so predictable in the fact that they will go off.
Too many crashes that when you ask what tyres they ran say Falkens.

Fit cheap, fit twice

Quite a strong statement! Hard facts to back this up would make me believe you. But in my own experience the statement is wrong. But until then scaremongering is quite extreme!

If you drove through an S bend on the limit in the wet, once with Goodyears, and once with Falkens, I bet the Goodyears would be quicker.

my favourite road, in the wet (A32 for any bikers out there).
T1-s no problem
F1 no problem
Falkens interface with brick wall.

The give out too easy.
If you drive like a nancy then sure, they will be fine for your needs.
If you are a fair weather **** polisher then sure, they will be fine for your needs.

This thread has got me tickled.
"Fair weather **** polisher" - It surely can't get any better than this?
As Dr Smith of Lost in Space fame once said -"Don't spare the barbs Major!"

i've just recently purchased a set of Falken 452's which replaced Yokohama prada spec 2
The Falken's are far supierior in the wet, seem ok in the dry not really pushed them yet, as it's allways pissing it down.

Turbotits, well what tracks have you driven and what lap times do you post?

It was a tongue in cheek remark to be fair, all tyres go off, its the predictability that is important so you know when and how it will happen, you just don't get that with shiddy falkens.
Also look at any recent tyre test (that wasn't manufacturer sponsered ) the Falkens will be well down on the performance and will be well up on price.

They are the tyre equivalent of DeWalt, they look pretty, but they are most definitely top end of the 'budget' section.

ive done the ring and castle coombe, Neither timed. I dont do many traks to be honest but i do push on lets just say that ive had the car sideways in the wet on all these tyres. I found the toyo awful for loosing front end traction when accelerating hard in the wet. the torque steer was awfull with em

Look at the TOTB discussion, look at the RC thread, look at what Hardy did thinking nobody would find out

I used topay up for MLR membership as the track days were very good, I've let it lapse this time as the place is going to the dogs rapido

Have to agree there. But ofcourse we all have a different driving style and what suits one may not suit another. All we can do is give our opinion from our own exoeriences

THE main difference though, on here we appreciate the EVO for what it is, direct competition and a great car.
The MLR will still resort to "yeah but what do you know, you own a scooby".

The only other fanbois I've seen that are that deluded and single marque blinkered is the civic typeR boys.

The MLR is on the way down unfortunately

My earlier comment was actually meant as light hearted humour, but I do agree with some of your comments. I find most people on MLR actually believe that a Lancer Evo is the best car on the planet, in every way. Everything else = sh*te.

I love Evo's, but I cetainly don't think the above...and I also don't think for a second that my scooby is anything special. My car was just good value for money when taking into account the performance and reliability when taken care of. It's been a good car, but not the be all and end all.

Anyway...better stop going off topic.

I'll get them on Scoob number 5 when the current tyres wear.

ive had the falken 452's on scoob no1 will get them on current model when the tyres i got the car with run out although to be fair the bridgestones on there feel fine but i really like tyres with the V-shaped tread pattern having also mainly been a goodyear Eagle F1 tyre lover i changed to the 452 due to £££ problems at the time and rated them really highly maybe not quite as good as the Eagles but not much in it imo

does anyone know about what effect the tread pattern has is it just about getting rid of the water if so surely the V shaped is best as used in F1 ect ?

What a quite amazing post - staggering really - evidence and facts would be useful if you are making claims that people will crash if they fit them

Of course, you know you are talking rubbish ...............

I did read on, after I had posted, granted .... I have just looked back again and cannot find any evidence that Falken Tyres are implicated in more crashes than any other tyre ................................. it certainly is a MrRee to me

TBH i haven't seen a lot of evidence... i have seen a lot of the same opinion being repeated but not actual evidence. The summary seems to be that they may let go unpredicatably in the dry (something many others seem to disagree with) and they aren't as good for driving on the ragged edge when the conditions are poor (i.e. stupidly)

Given that all this is personal experience and opinion it seems we have more actual Falken users saying they are good than saying otherwise. For me that's the evidence they are a decent tyre.

You mentioned a independent test but at the same time you've bene quite veherment with your opinion so i don't think it can be called truely independent. I don't doubt there are better tyres out there but right now i feel they offer at least if not better performance than the standard Bridgestones at a much lower price which can only be a good thing.

I merely suggested that a quite peak at some independant tyre test would give more factual based evidence than my own opinion.
I would not consider myself to be evidence, independant or factual

I merely gave opinion and experience, nothing more
