Scoobynet text speak "Wall of Shame"
#31
LOL, i don't "insist" on anything, James, i'm just the old-school fuddy-duddy who remembers when it mattered whether you knew the difference between to and too, and your and you're. I never pick up on anything other than the sort of spelling and grammar that the average seven year old should be aware of. And i make no apologies for doing so, car forum or not.
Alas, we are talking about text speak so your above mistakes don't count.
Just joshing with you.

Did you know that if you have genuine dyslexia then you can get a disabled badge. You will also be registered as being dyslexic on your medical records.
I wonder how many people have been properly diagnosed, and how many just claim they suffer but in reality are lazy *****?
Another question for the masses.
When I was taught English at school, the word in brackets was (sic), which is an adverb meaning it is intentionally written thus, where does the offshoot (sp?) come from? Is it now convention?
Everybody is guilty of the odd speeling (sic) mistake, but to make no effort at all is tragic, lazy and shows a complete disregard for others; ergo it is anti-social.
Why was Simon's post marked as unwanted?

(sic) is the Latin for "thus" and should be used when quoting text which contains a spelling mistake to attribute the mistake to the original author.
(sp) on the other hand has entered common use to indicate that the preceding word may (or may not) be spelt incorrectly - in other words, the author was too lazy to look up the correct spelling!
I have always had problems with spelling... "my spilling is attricious" ...but there is really no excuse for text speak on an internet forum; Its nothing more than laziness! Personally, I use the auto spell check function of the Firefox browser to make sure what I post is spelt correctly.

Maybe the user is dyslexic and meant to click on 'wanted'?
For those of you have a serious issue with 'txt' style writing, why the hell do you want to see such examples placed on their own thread?
Hypocritical? Just slightly!
I do agree, posting in this style does appear lazy, but it makes the user look stupid anyway, so why get so angry?
Continuing to bang on about what 'you' want all the time just makes you look stupid instead!

It's the txt spk that really, really does my 'ead in!
Bad spelling makes me grit my teeth, but I understand that some people can't help it. After all, although I can spell I'm crap at sums!

You were taught badly then.
But it's easier to teach that rule to children than to explain how you can construct a perfectly good sentence thus.

> "the average seven year old should be aware of."
Oh dear another faux pas, should be "of which the average seven year old should be aware." Remember the golden rule - a preposition is a word you shouldn't finish a sentence with.
Of course that would have been lots funnier if your preposition had been with rather than of.
I should also point out that no, that doesn't count as ending a sentence with of.
And neither does that.
P*** taking apart I fully agree with your point, text speak drives me up the wall. Another forum I'm on automatically replaces any text words with "I use textspeak because I'm too lazy to spell properly". Might help.

I've just noticed that I have created a thread to name and shame text speakers. Naming and shaming is against the rules of ScoobyNet so I'm in direct contravention of SN guidelines.

Its in the Rules: https://www.scoobynet.com/news-annou...th-2008-a.html
I can even infract people for it. Not that I would, as the day I have to do that will be a sorry affair for the method we use to communicate between ourselves, which is otherwise better known as English

It's not spelling mistakes, it's deliberate text-speak.
