What they are is greedy. They are simply using the economy as an excuse. I'm sure the saving will almost exactly equal the extra bonus payouts to the board next year.

we live in a commercial world and the retail business has always been as cut throat as any other sector, if not more. business is not in existence to support people, it's there to make money. if you or i were running the show, we would probably be chasing pound signs too (especially with m&s being a takeover target so many times in the past!)

Funny thing is,as a child I always used to see Marks and Sparks as somewhere the poor shopped for whits shirts and grey trousers (St Michael and all that). They have changed their image over the years!

And as someone mentioned before, yes they have done the 'This isn't any redundancy, this is an M&S redundancy' (Times cartoon today)

I know how business works however i can't help thinking this won't actually save the company any money or be returned to shareholders, it will simply be put in the pocket of Stuart Rose as a bonus. Scummy.

We will ship them to the UK. They are Scotland's oldest ally after all so they will get on fine and we can settle down to drinking the wine and annoying the Germans.
