Who's put on weight over Christmas?
If you want to put on muscle weight you really have to go for it - and I mean be obsessed for at least a year. A lot think diet is the most important thing. I don't.
Get the right routine and your appetite will shoot up naturally and you'll crave stuff you need - protein and carbs (well I did anyway).
You need to do sets of no more than 15 (otherwise too light) and no less than 6 (too heavy) reps and do each last set to failure (absolutely CANNOT do another rep).
I managed 3 stone in 18 months but it was a slog and a half. Worth it though
I've put on 4lb, it doesn't sound alot but I can feel it, went shopping the other day and still got into a size 10 but that 4lb has got to go, will take the dog for longer walks and maybe's start doing some sit ups but I'm not too good at them! Didnt really induldge that much over xmas.................well apart from the tin of quality street that was calling my name nearly every night
How often do you all weigh yourselves?
I think it might be too often!
Wife - just had (three months ago) a baby yet fitted perfectly into a size 10 wetsuit (which she bought) at the weekend. She has no idea what she weighs but is certainly very trim.
Me - I have an idea what I weigh but only + or - half a stone. Used to worry about it (was on a major bulking mission) but now don't care. Do vast amounts of exercise and weights so whether it's 8 or 14 stone, it doesn't matter!

How tall are you?

5'8" and a smidge. Reasonably obsessed, probably need to get the routine sorted out & speak to someone that can translate the rep/set thing you put into something I can understand!
I have
My jeans are really, really, REALLY tight at the moment and I'm ashamed to say that I went out and bought a new pair in a larger size because I was scared of splitting my others
The annoying bit is that I was fairly restrained over the holiday, I only ate one mince pie the whole time! I guess it was the chocolate, crisps and wine that didn't help plus I picked up the habit of eating hot thick buttered wholemeal toast with ginger preserve on it, yum, two slices never seemed enough though...

The jeans bought for me at Christmas have to go back at they are too big

Am not trying to hack you off, honest
Basically you need your sets (usually 3 per exercise) to consist of 6-15 reps. If you can't do 6 it's too heavy, if you can do more than 15 it's too light.
I'd aim for a split routine (e.g. biceps and legs one day, triceps and chest another, etc with abs every day) so you can really blast each muscle group with 3 exercises each.

I still do them but not many - find crunches and other abs exercises much better BUT am under no illusion that they are good for a six pack. What's good for a six pack is lots of cardio and low fat %age. Under 12 is usually where results show. Strong abs muscles are handy though.
Try this - get two dumbells (smallish) - and put them side by side (as if they were a barbell) and undo the middles so they roll (or use two ab rollers).
Put your feet touching them, then with straight legs bend down and grab the bars (as if touching your toes) . Roll yourself totally flat to the ground and try not to collapse. Then use your abs to pull yourself back to the start position - it's VERY hard but doable with strong abs.
I now have a range of similar tests of strength and all are bloody evil!

Your advice was good m8 - I just need lots of it so as I can get it into my bonce.
What I really need is a PT to show me what to do for a period of time, otherwise I just go home & try what I'm told & probably **** it up

Puff, you need somebody to train with if you want to get big, bottom line. Very, very few guys that train on their own make significant changes. You have to go a bit mental while still being sensible if that makes sense, and you can't push yourself hard enough if you're always worried about getting stuck with a weight or whatever.

i think i have lost weight over xmas!
i think it is due to the fact when im in work i will have a bacon & sausage barm every morning so i dont really eat that healthy, however i do go to the gym 3 times a week but i havent been going regular for over 6 weeks due to a cold that i couldnt shift and a chest infection to top it off.
during the time i have had off i have bought a new mtb and got back into biking and been out doing 12/14 miles off road every other day so that will help
Matteeboy are you on bikeradar too?

I sometimes trained alone and found the best thing was machines - yes they don't help with stability but they also don't kill you if you have problems.
Which is handy.
A training partner does help but realistically it can be tricky to find a likeminded training partner with similar aims.

12st 9 on boxing day
12st 2 this morning
Should be about 11st 10 for my ideal weight so less than half a stone from where im happy at.
It's so easy to put on weight, for those that are struggling, try a lazy weekend, no more than about 100 steps a day, sit on your ar*e watch TV, surf the web, drink about 2 or 3 cartons of innocent smoothies, eat a tub of ice cream, lots of crisps, chocolate and general rubbish, have a chineese and a few drinks, do this again on the sunday and when you weigh yourself on the monday, you'll be guaranteed to be half a stone if not more heavier.
I find that smoothies just pile on the weight, nothing good about them at all
Easy, just be a lazy bastuard and eat plenty of rubbish for a few days

I always lose weight over Christmas and despite eating badly over the festive season I still lost weight
I've been on a diet since August and I've lost just over a stone since then so I didn't expect to keep losing weight this time

And I suspect the instructor will give us a serious cardio session to punish us, even though he insisted that chocolate is a food group

You know I think I look pretty good when I wear them...
