In all seriousness,
This must be the worst thing that can happen to you,to lose someone so close to you and especially a child.
Cant bear to think what life would be like without my children!

God bless him.

Right then, leave the jokes out for now. Seems to be ruffling the feathers.

And those who object, its noted. So no more complaints about them and no more jokes and leave it there. OK?

Luke has got the message so it doesn't need repeating ad-infinitum.

(I'm not going to delete them because someone else will post them anyway as they are already doing the rounds- as I just had one texted to me )

Your series of posts and your attempts at humour over a heartbreaking story have demonstrated your true personality to us all!

Nothing to be proud of I can assure you.

I posted this before I saw the moderator's comments-sorry about that!

Moment by moment I question your reply Les. You not another “Bubble liver” are you? Some others also enjoyed the humor….
So I say to those who complain , look who’s talking? Many other threads about deaths contain Jokes. This is not your private living room so be prepared to hear different opinions.
Life is not perfect. Some hear claim to be the experts on what we must and must not write. Its like they believe we have crossed the thin red line and created some Domestic disturbance. We are not two of a kind we all have different ways of thinking.

John Travolta is with his family and has been quoted as saying his wife is supporting him etc. “she’s so lovely, I am suffering with white mans burden, to lose my son in this way. He was a good guy and his GF , Carrie , the General’s daughter misses him”

I live in this mad city, London and I have heard at least 6 other jokes today. Does not mean any of us relish what has happened. We are all just staying alive and trying to deal with this Phenomenon.

If John Travolta does not like it then he can start Civil action.

Luke, in fairness I think the protest is at the repeated plays on the thread without the slightest compassion. I can see where they are coming from.

You are of course 100% right that there have been jokes about everything from the Challenger accident to 9-11 and then some.

On a serious note though, it must be terrible for the family. Another example of the limits of what money can do for you. So many millions just could not get the care needed to save the poor lads life.

RIP Jett

I have always been a fan of John Travolta's, especially since Pulp Fiction, he comes across very well, no particular Ego, I identify with him and admire him for his acting but mainly his love of aviation and having the application and skill to learn to fly an airliner, he named his son Jett as a testament to his love of all things plane related, maybe a bit Hollywood but you get the impression they were a tight family unit, and no, it doesn't matter to me one iota, it makes no difference to me but I can sympathise with them, it made me sad to read about it but mainly it just makes you worry about your own just keeling over, some acquaintances of ours lost their 15 year old son on the Rugby field, just died, a year to the day the same thing happened to his father, also on the rugby field.

I am not in a bubble and I am not averse to the odd joke but the ones on here so far have been of very poor quality, sometimes you laugh at this type of joke, not because someone losing a child (or other similar tragedy) is funny but perhaps its just a good play on words or ironic in some way.

Perhaps, unless you have an absolute classic and prefix it with an apology in advance you might as well keep quiet and not end up looking crass and idiotic ?

Luke,

It must have got through to you by now that you really dropped one with your foolish and unnecessary attempts at humour over that poor lad's death. There was not even anything clever or funny about what you said.

The remarks that it engendered came purely from a sense of common decency by those who made them.

You would do better to just climb down over the whole affair.

Les

Luke I have edited your last sentance as I don't think bringing that subject back up in this way is accetable... I have posted it for the moderating team to look at and if the opinion is that it is ok it will be edited back on.

Ali has asked you once to calm it down, I am now asking the same as it looks to me like you are trying to incite members via this subject.

Whilst Luke's jokes are in poor taste it's nothing we haven't all heard before. Death isn't a laughing matter and I can't defend Luke for making jokes about it but I have seen worse comments on some threads.

Luke, by post 25 you had posted 8 posts lol 1/3 of the entire thread content... THEN you decided to say "does not mean i dont feel sorry for the guy"

I stick by my original comments thank you.

Agreed, there has been equal and worse. Would not argue that, nor deny laughing at some of them. I think it was the volume and intensity that has stirred people up a bit. Me included.

Death is a sore point for me right now, so apologies to Luke, maybe im being a bit over emotional

its a sick joke, im sure we will all get it on text today, if you dont find it funny dont laugh, if you do, maybe you keep it to yourself.

it is a forum, people can say what they want doesnt mean we have to like it.
Personally though,

if you have ever seen someone fit uncontrollably, (my mate at work did right next to me, it turned out to be bone cancer in his skull, prognosis unknown yet. dealing with a friend desperately ill and also his workload has been awful the last few months)
you just wouldnt repeat those sort of jokes mate.

Luke, the way I see it is this, there is always a time and place for humour and a thread commiserating with someone over the loss of a child isn't either of those. Please, just let people express their sympathies here, then will you stop arguing and go and find some people of a like mind elsewhere who will appreciate your humour.

Buy a can of "toughen the Fk up" and get on with life. you never gave a toss about the 1000 kids that just died in africa.

typical daily mail knee jerk reaction.
Exactly, you cant have a laugh about anything on here anymore, its gone politically correct!

Why do people get upset when someting happens to someone on the other side of the world that they have no connection with! People who get offended on other peoples behalf really pi55 me off too, sort it out!

If you spend your time feeling sorry for other people all the time, surely your missing out on being happy!

Unless you knew the guy personally, why be bothered?

some here do find the "humor" funny . stop thinking your are all correct. and do any of you even know the guy or his family?? no....... so its not like i should give a flying toss about you.

And it seems most of the arguing is been done by them ?

can i start a thread" do you really not care about JT son"? for those of us that dont feel the need for all these threads about people we have no connections with.

Because some people can show empathy with others and feel for them.

People with children can relate to what the Travolta family is going through, not because it is a famous family, but because it reminds us of all the other families going through exactly the same thing right at this moment in time.

Whilst thinking of your own children and your own mortallity, the reading of jokes doesn't really sit well. The community has told you that it finds it a little distasteful and inappropriate - but you still come on demanding attention (sounds like me in my younger days!? ).

It may be better to just leave it as is now and take our own thoughts about it away with us?

well i am making this the time and the place.

stop been so silly woman. we (those that like a joke ) have our human rights as well. some are paying members here . so lets look at the big picture...... we have a load of people who feel the need to be emotional about something they have no connection with

now..... lets say PSL ( he wont mind) came on and said...

I wont be posting for a bit due to my wife dying etc)

then i would never expect anyone to make a joke etc. why? ....well because he is connected to us all in ways and it would not be the right thing

And i have met JT 3 times so there....! (Aviation world)
