At the end of the day (yes I know you go to bed) Asif A51 has done something I reckon a lot of people would do. It's not big and it's not clever (a bit like a thick dwarf). However he could gain some credibility if he came on and apologised, perhaps a goodwill gesture of some sort. Yes the Scoobynet massive do not like this sort of behaviour but we can forgive. Over to you Asif.

I brought a Turbo 2000 on a V plate and on the way home which was about a 120 mile trip my rear diff burst onto flames on the M6 and locked the rear wheels about 45 miles from my house. i had to phone the fire brigade to come and put the flames out before the whole thing went up. the highways agency had to come and inspect the road to make sure it was safe being oil everywhere. and it cost me £114 to get it delivered back at my house after a garage quoted me £1100 to fix it. I believe the car to be sold as seen as i did give it a good test drive and give it a thrash before buying it. all looked good apart from service history as the guy had been doing it himself. I got a diff for £140 and some oil for £12. me my cousin (Maydew) and my bro fixed it between us and it cost me around £160 if you include the travelling about for parts n stuff. I did phone the guy up that sold me the car and as you can imagine i did have a few choice words. but as he lives so far away i really couldn't be arsed to go see him. anyway it's fixed and i enjoy driving it. i have also learn't more about my car. Just one of those things i suppose.

Just remember if a car is for sale it's for a reason.

How would you feel if you 100% knew the seller knew the diff was knackered before letting you drive off with it?

As i said abit ago if the diff fits you can take it for 25.
But if it makes it even easier andywidss has a mate that came round yesterday who really didnt mess about Im certain that between them they could swap it with out a problem,
So a small idea if you get hold off andy find out how much they would charge to do it. Then a51 drop the cash for labour + parts at mine.
After that your Underworld andy and stradderling mate are wellcome to come use my drive and do the job.
That way A51 if your a bit ashamed embarresed at wht you have done you dont have to deal with any one.
off course that all depends on A51 andy and underworld, but even if it costs you 200 quid to sort it A51 so the car is right for the lad. its better than a lot off options

Just a thought

That sounds like a very reasonable way out for all.

The guy probably did know about my diff but he said he didn't even know what the diff was so he obviously didn't check the oil level. How can i argue with that i bought the car knowing he did the services himself to. since fixing it i have serviced the car myself anyway but the plugs oil and filters did all look new so i presume he was doing the oil and plugs. i know the cambelt was done as i have a receipt from a subaru specialists. This guy who sold this car got found out. all i can say to him is UNLUCKY. from reading the last few post it does look like he is going to help out with the cost of repairing it so fair play to him maybe he will be a more honest seller next time.

This is link to my car if some one wants to check that its right diff

https://www.scoobynet.com/private-sa...-good-car.html

I didnt want to get involved in it all but when A51 came to my house the car wasnt mint

So if Underworld you got it at a bargin price you might just have to bite bullet mate,

And A51 if you sold it for loads just pay for the diff and labour.

To be fair 25quid is nolt and the only reason im charging it is because its principal! the drive mechanics and tools (you can use mine) are all there.
But im willing to bet a tenna it all just gets forgotton about,

If some one charged a fortune for a car to me and it broke it wouldnt matter if they on other side off country id be round there house.

But like the one im breaking i didnt give a fortune for it. so wasnt expecting it to last long lol.
Hope you can see/translate what im trying to say lol

In his reply he said it was just a exhaust banging, but as the diff has gone its a big coincidence,
The thing is a Diff isnt much money anyway, I won one from ebay for 99p.
As said above im sure a mod will be able to see before the edit incase ive got the gist of what was said wrong.

Funny how the OP comes on here looking for support regarding a car sold that has developed an error after it was sold. Then to find the new owner already a member on here as well, and that the OP has posted looking for help with a 'diff' noise.

Moving on from all that, How good is it to see other members offering parts/labour/drive space to get the problem sorted for the new owner. Thats what this forum is about.

For every one person that is on the fiddle, there are more than enough people willing to help out to keep our cars on the road.

Happy new year to all the decent honest Scooby owners out there, and to the others......... what goes around comes around.

I think the only reason that iv offered my drive tools and kettle are that from breaking my car i bet iv had 10 different members round for parts and they have all been really good laughs and done the deals with smiles on there faces. and its really annoying that some one might read this post and think F**k that im not buying a car off there.
To those people one answer check out my new baby lol

im currently looking at buying a car off this site, there are a few for sale at the moment due to the crerdit crunch but after reading this it just makes you think about who you can trust. i do hope that this issue gets resolved quickly and that the people invilved show theirselves and let everyone know whats going on.

happy new year.

If there ever was a reason to have time-outs on thread edits this is it.

Think I might ask Stu to turn them back on, but maybe set it to something more lenient like 2 hours or something.

leave it as it is. stop messing with it. just make it so admin can see the edits so in extreme cases like this it can be recalled if need be.
