My diff went just out of the blue a few months back, was a little low on oil though.
I'd say it's just bad luck, 2 days after buying my scoob the head gasket went and blew oil everywhere. Not the sellers fault or mine....just one of them things. He gave it a hiding on the test drive so was obviously not hiding anything, and i had a go too.
We split the cost, i paid for parts and he sorted the labour at his garage. It was a private sale as it was his own car, he could of told me to bog off if he wanted!

I'd say split the cost of the diff, or even buy the diff for him. You can pick a diff up for no more than £100 if you look in the right places. Mine cost £50 and runs sweet as a nut. A diff can be changed in 3 hours easy so labour shouldn't cost too much.

Thats what i'd do anyway

Something else tells me you knew about the diff problem before you sold it...

I found this by searching through some of your old posts/topics

Heres the link but you can clearly see in the URL address that you thought you had a diff problem but have since edited the topic. Unfortunately (for you) the topic title still shows up.

But it still does not resolve the problem and it is still the purchasers fault for not having a proper check done, after all £200 {or what ever it is} would have either found the problem or protected him against it.

If you found that thread then why didn't the purchaser, please don't think I am protecting the seller but after all it is not about a lynching, maybe it is better for them to sort it out by PM not on an open forum...

That changes things completely. It had a known problem the seller didn't fess up to. I think someone owes someone a replacement diff...... and an apology.

Sad to see a member ripping off another enthusiast... A51, if you're a decent guy then you'll pay for a diff as goodwill and let the new owner sort out the labour. That would be fair.

However, as you've tried to cover up your previous thread, I doubt that you'll do the right thing here.

Cheers,
Grant

I would say Underworld also has the law on his side now as the seller sold it with a known fault. If i was him, i would be asking for the cost of parts & labour!

Although, i doubt we'll hear from a51 again

i agree to be honest if there is a problem with the selling or buying ov a car the last place the 2 people should be talking about it is on a forum . far better to ring each other and sort the problem out

But the seller made it public on the very same forum he asked about a possible broken diff. If he hadnt done that, we would be none the wiser.

If you don't ask the question, he didn't lie.

Not taking sides, but if a dealer takes a p/x and doesn't ask if it's ever been a cat(?) write off, they haven't got a leg to stand on.

Looks like somebody will be buying someone a diff.

imho

Being economical with the truth doesn't make it right though. He sought advice from a fairly large forum where the buyer happens to frequent and then asks for sympathy/further advice...Mental or plain ol stupid either or its hard to sympathise with someone that has blatantly been deceitful.

Not forgetting the fact he previously edited the topic in question hoping that no-one would see exactly what the problem was.

Scum

Edited: This topic was posted about 1pm, 2hrs later he edited his broken diff topic

Mods can't see what was there prior to an edit. Delete a post then they can, edit and they can't. I thought they may be able to.

Lisa was on about this thread to me earlier, so was asking.

Doesnt look good for the seller.

If it didnt do it on the test drive and the buyer gave the money and drove away, then it did it later on after that, then there is nothing.

So the buyer has the problem.

Im sure loads of you have had this problem before.

And you will know one minute things can be fine, the next they can brake on these cars, **** happens, deal with it.

the problem was known by the seller and it was hidden on purpose so the car could be sold easier. there is a difference!
