Something else tells me you knew about the diff problem before you sold it...
I found this by searching through some of your old posts/topics
Heres the link but you can clearly see in the URL address that you thought you had a diff problem but have since edited the topic. Unfortunately (for you) the topic title still shows up.

i dont think the police would do a thing, to be honest, small claims court, might look at it, but would cost you..
not telling anyone what to do here, but if it were me, and i obviously knew where the guy lived, i hang him upside down till his pockets emptied! (whilst shaking him, shouting lots, and kicking the poo out of his cat)

What a complete tosser the OP is!!...Theres one thing selling a car and it GENUINELY develops a fault just after buying/selling it, but trying to hide the fact the fault is already present is another thing.
I cant believe he came on and posted looking for the sympathy vote

i think this is a case of lesson learnt here !!, when buying any high performance car i always make sure i give the car a proper "going over" !! if i am parting with my hard earnt then i want to know i am getting my monies worth .
The seller defo knew about this problem, hence the reason he was very strict on test drives etc .... but having said this its the old buyer beware syndrome !!
The fact the seller and buyer are both members on here is a pure fluke and poss a good luck token for the buyer to try and recoup some money for the repair.... the fact the seller has been caught with his pants down, i consider is slap in the face for him which he rightly deserves and i think he should be man enough to contact the buyer to show there is a decent bone in his body .... but lets be honest there are ALOT of dodgy gits out there selling ****e cars !! this is the reason buyer beware is soooo vital.
just my point of view here guys, but i do feel sorry for the buyer esp as the seller knew he was selling a broken car, but hey i am a believer of an eye for a eye .

There is a little rule I have when buying cars:
People sell their cars for only a few reasons:
Home-based trader
Money issues
Impractical (especially performance cars used daily)
Or: There is something wrong with the car!
Same with buying a car off a dealer; you need to assertain why the previous owner got rid. And if that was a problem with the car; Was it fixed?
I think alot of people do lie or pretend to be ignorant of any problems the car may have in effort to get a sale and as much money as they can for the car.
I've been guilty of this, like not noticing the clutch judder when cold (lie), and didn't notice the chips-away repair on the A-pillar (lie), or the disks were a bit worn (lie). Fair play to the prospective buyer for noticing these BEFORE he bought the car.
Its down to the morals of the seller on what he feels is ok to hide and what to admit. I know I can't sell a car on knowing it has a serious and expensive problem, I couldn't live with that on my head. However, many people will happily lie about it.
With that in mind; buyer beware!

I just sold my Impreza yesterday never had any issues except the fuel guage which sorted itself out around 9 months ago as it was sticking 1/2 way and thats about it, the new buyer has read all my forum posts to see the history of the car and I took him for a 20 min / 10 mile drive boosting, cruising, through some twisties.
I took his car and he basically did the same, I said he could go a shorter route so the trip was prob 1/2 that time and distance.
We filled forms to confirm that the car has no outstanding finance, we were the owners of the cars, we hadn't had any accidents, etc, and put all details on such as the VIN numbers and sold as seen.
I think thats as much as you can do as a buyer / seller.
I had my Impreza 14 months and it never missed a beat, just sailed through MOT if something happens I would say sold as seen tough, now sounds harsh but if I drive the car i've got off him (as was a PX + cash his way) and something happens I consider it tough on my behalf and wouldn't seek anything off him.
It's just a risk with any used car unfortunatly. I've sold 10+ cars in my time and thankfully never had any comebacks except 1 and that was because he lost his license and asked if I wanted to buy back but I have bought cars that turned out to be not what I thought.

^^^ didn't realise there was more than 1 page and read page 2 now is a bit harsh if a known fault was thought to possibly be there.
It's easy in hindsight but when I buy a car if it's off the net I usually dig for peoples previous messages as you can find out the history through there queries more often than not.
The buyer of my car mentioned things i'd wrote on both SIDC and Scoobynet so clearly he has done his research.
I feel sorry for the buyer to an extent but I still think it's sold as seen, it's just because everyone is on the same forum it makes the situation a bit more different and uncomfortable.

I've gone for a fully loaded E46 M3, for various reasons but mainly because the year ahead i'm going to be putting about 50k of miles minimum of driving across europe alot and although I loved the Scoob I need something still nippy but a bit more relaxing and less continuously lairy for long trips.
I loved my Scoob best all rounder i've owned and I will 'DEFINATLY' be buying another when my finances (other half) allows for it

selling a car to a buy not a dealer, and saying sold as seen, nowing it's not sound is low, and even though it sold as seen the seller did not report to the buyer as pos diff naff.
I think is should contact the police as this is fraud how every you look at it.
Buy of the naffed car keep all updated

I think he should contact the police as this is fraud how ever you look at it.
Can the buyer keep us updated.
