To be honest, the Retailers who do not offer what the buyer wants will go down.

Throughout the 80's MFI were truly awful .... recently, you could no longer collect your goods as you once could. It's not what the buyer wants.

The DSGi Group treat Customers disgracefully, that gets known and is not what the buyers want.

John Lewis give outstanding Customer care and will remain profitable for that single fact alone - as an example.

Tesco offer buyers what they want at a price they want to pay, they will flourish.

Passion for perfume is on it's way out. Not a big company but does have a lot of shops around the UK.

zavvi could possibly go i reckon, simply because its tangled up in the woolies fiasco.

not been to richer sounds for a good few years but they used to "stack em high and sell em cheap" so doubtfull they will go, they have low overheads IIRC

jessops are well are truly screwed. canon will not supply i am told as they have not paid their account for sometime.

expect anything to do with "chav eating" (harvesters etc) to fall soon.

Mitchells & Butlers are the biggest pub/restaurant group in the UK with probably two dozen or more brands. They own more than just Harvester. Most likely to keep them afloat is the "chav eating" cheap destinations such as Pub & Carvery which sell food ridiculously cheaply rather than the higher charging establishments that they own.

To name a few of the others who they own:

All Bar One;
Browns;
Crown Carveries;
Edward's;
Ember Inns;
Flares;
Goose;
Harvester;
Hollywood Bowl;
Nicholsons;
O'Niells;
Popworld;
Reflex;
Scream;
Toby Carvery;
Vintage Inns.

They are just the few that I can think of, but there are many, many more owned by M&B. Plus the tie-in with Coors Brewery means they buy in cheap e.g. Carling at under 50p a pint etc. Don't write them off yet...

Again ... Nothing more i would like to see.
It would be a good shop if they didnt employ stuck up middle aged house wifes with no clue on running a shop, never mind giving any kind of customer service.

Why is it they always come across as "better than you"

Feks me right off .....

They should be popular with the SN massive then: it's full of people who mistakenly think that they're better than other people (mostly whilst being too stupid/uneducated to even form a coherent sentence). They should also be popular with the other members, who mistake their opinion for fact...

Somerfields IMO should have gone to the wall years ago. Expensive (in comparison) and crap quality own-brand stuff

Retailers are now telling us that it has been a bumper Xmas shopping fest!!

Better than last year they say, now!

Happens every year, doom and gloom, then POP all shops have made a killing!

DSGi's loss included a 22m purchase of a major greek retailer so not as gloomy as people are making out.

I think half of this is down to people buying purely on price, a ridiculous thing to do and then moan about service.

That said how much stuff is being bought via ebay now, I spend plenty there as I sell stuff too and have a paypal balance whihc if shops took I'd spend it there.

one thing i have learned from scoobynet, is that whatever the "massive" say on this forum, usually the opposite comes true

Well, the town centre was heaving today ..... BHS was extremely quiet, however.

Boots was deserted, the Photo-Lab people just stood about.

Jessops was very busy, as was Wilkinsons.

Woolworths had For Sale signs on the Shop Fittings!!

Debenhams was relatively busy, not many buying - just looking and leaving empty-handed.

SONY shop was full of gawkers, looking at the super-duper TVs.

Gamestation still smells of BO and Pee - why do they all smell like that?

Game had a queue ... but the tills are designed to give that impression.

Modelzone was doing fair business.

Jewellers seemed empty.

My money is definately on BHS to go the way of Woolies.
