It doesn't torque steer as bad as the critics say, there you go!

Agree with you on the 4wd but never underestimate a well set up fwd car, I and a few others take our FRS on track and Nurburgring every year and surprise quite a few motors, although, that starts a whole new "driver" debate!

Learn how to drive a fwd car properly and you will eliminate all the cons stated above, wooden steering......................... you must be on about one of the other fwd cars, the FRS is anything but wooden!

LOL Shins. I know Was just being provocative with those ultra-sensitive FWD types

I well remember being humbled at the Nurburgring by a thing known as the Ring Mini. It went past pretty much everybody with ease and was an estate too, running Honda VTEC power Good pilot though, but he was still missing out on power-oversteer

BR,

Richard.

Just walked straight into that one!

All good fun, the MK1 FRS is a very good car, had mine for over 3yrs now running 310bhp and has never let me down once, (still on original turbo and clutch) so regarding build etc, Fords have moved the game on, will hold my thoughts for the new one til some facts/figures come out, although heavier (by over 150kgs) it does have more power but it will need to be mixing it at the top for me to want to change!

I've had a focus rs and the old st170 and can say that they are great cars. Despite being a focus underneath!

looking at 'standard' consumer cars, bhp on it's own is meaningless, it's the bhp per ton figure that counts, so yes a fwd has less transmission loss, but also less grip, just about the fastest accelerating fwd car is the mini cooper s works gp, 203 bhp/ton 0-60 in 5.6s, 0-100 in 13.85, 60-100 in 8.21. 1/4 in 14.02 and t-100.61

comparing that to an 276bhp import STi which also has 203 bhp/ton 0-60 in 4.93, 0-100 in 13.22, 60-100 in 8.30. 1/4 in 13.65 and t-101.60.

in the 'real world' though, when rolling, it is whoever plants their foot first, whoever has the best brakes, the best tyres, and the biggest b0llocks.
imo the 4wd grip is more benificial than the fwd transmission loss advantage.

for hours of fun Car Stats - Four Wheel Drive

Hi
Hoppy
The TT is a lifeless car to drive mate if its a mark 1,
I had 4 of them 1 x 225 chipped 2 x 3.2 & 1 x QS240 chipped
The QS was the pick of the bunch and when chipped to just under 300 horse's went well but they still understeer like a pig and have a remote lifeless feel when B-road blasting.
As for the FRS Mrk1 they are an ok car but not as polished and when unchipped slower that a std ST.
The new FRS Mrk2 will be the bench mark for all fwd cars and should be able to push around 340/355bhp when remapped.
All the BEST
Cheers

Welcome Mobbster

If the TT is such a lifeless car why the heck did you have FOUR of them? That makes no sense mate. And while I concede the Mk2 (must be?) better, it was not noticeably so when I drove a 3.2 recently. It was just twice the asking price of a very tidy Mk1, and no way twice as good (or even significantly different). Spend the difference on tweaking a Mk1 and you've got a seriously capable motor.

I agree that a 350bhp FRS will NOT be lifeless, but mainly for all the wrong reasons. Benchmark for all FWD cars? Fine. But that's nothing much to aspire to, is it.

Cheers

Richard.

Hi
Hoppy i had 4 of them because i first tried the 225 and then both of the
V-6/3.2 one with std stick shift the other with Dsg and the QS240 was the last one .
Before saying they were lifeless i had to give them all a try
The two V-6/3.2 sounded good but the engine is not fantastic & i hated the Dsg (dog sh1te gearbox).
The QS was a lot better to drive but was still lifeless but just not as bad as the others.
My mate across the road loved the Red QS but was gutted when i let him take it out He said the same as i have ! Nice to look at with good build quality but just a dish water dull driving experience. (sorry) Even a focus ST would be more fun to drive on the B-roads . Maybe im only saying dull because most of the cars i have had over the last 5/6 years have gave better driver feed back
All the BEST
Cheers

All opinions welcome mate, but I'm really interested in why you hated the DSG box. I bloody love it on my wife's 3.2 TT

What didn't you like about it?

Richard.

Hi
Hoppy i did not like the DSG because i had an SLK350 7speed auto and that was great then after that had on 06 plate E46 M3cs with SMG and that was even better.
And after those 2 types the Dsg seemed slow and got confused sometimes
Cheers
