Nothing sarcastic about it. I never said you were thick either, you just do a cracking impression.

Plus, with your comment about it only being a forum is one that might sit comfortably with you but not me. Each to their own but it is basic education we are talking here. If you come on a board moaning about education just expect to be looked at first, as maybe the teacher has done thinking she is helping you too by highlighting errors.

I'm with everyone else on this one. You just can't praise kids for incorrect work.

I'm not saying I'm perfect or anything, but the number of illiterate folk in this country is unreal, and it's getting worse! What really gets my goat is when someone claims to be dyslexic and they're clearly not. I just want to turn round and say to them 'no, you stupid fool, you're illiterate - there is a BIG difference, you know!!' (I'm not saying your kid is illiterate by the way, just having a wee rant )

Sometimes I've given posts on SN one look and not read them because there's no punctuation, the grammar and spelling are awful. Some of them are impossible to decipher.

I'm playing devil's advocate here so no offence... Do you think he might have made the teacher out to be worse than she actually is because he knows that you're pissed off at her? I mean, he might want to guarantee getting you into the school to sort her out because he is getting the impression from you that his homework is actually okay and he shouldn't have to do it again? Does that make sense? I know kids have a tendency to tell wee porkies like that; I've witnessed it myself on several occasions. I'm sure you and everyone else has, and if anyone ever says we've never done it ourselves as kids then they're blatantly lying again!

She called him stupid and his mate as well, in front of the rest of class.
is that enough witnesses, oh and a classroom assistiant.

7 year old boys shouldnt be doing homework at 9.30 at night

in her defence, (talking to other parents who have been inthe same situation with her) she has been teaching the ten year olds for the last few years, and now she has got seven year olds so i wonder if she expects too much. i mean he is still on pencil for gods sake.

That is bang out of order, no teacher should do that, especially if it was in front of his peers.

He may just have trouble grasping the particular subject matter as not many people are blindingly good at all subjects.

Many years ago, my dyslexic brother was called a "little *******" by one of his teachers, when he was frustrated over something he couldn't understand/get right. She didn't have her job for long after that (was in a private school though).

Defo time for a meeting with the Headmaster/Headmistress, I'd be pretty peeved if I was you.

Hope you get it sorted

And all of the above pretty much shows that this particular teacher is in need of some 'guidance'

As said, good luck!

Chillax dude, I said I was playing devil's advocate. She clearly needs to be spoken to then.

Did you find out what she said to your wife?

I think it's good that you take an active interest in your sons education, while many parents would just shrug it off or take a teachers opinion before your own child.
You are leading by example for your son and to keep your sons trust while he's in education is extremely valuable.
If your son is making mistakes then he will learn from them and it's right for him to see those mistakes, but you're absolutely right that he should be encouraged.

When I was at school I was constantly put down and when I got 100% in a number of mock exams I was accused of cheating.
My parents took little interest in what I thought and believed what the teachers thought of me.
I was denied every single "option" I had picked for my subjects in comprehensive school and quickly lost all interest.

I have been IQ tested and score normally between 137 and 157 depending on subjects.

Yep As per Mrs Abdabz works like a trojan to do the best for her little pupils...

Strikes me of parent being way way way too overprotective of a non academic but hard working child... I mean god forbid she marked the papers and put lines/corrections where there were mistakes
What is the teacher supposed to do? Put stickers of flowers all over the work and give the kid a lollipop?

Did you know teachers arent even allowed to mark in red pen anymore because it is too negative?

Sorry fella, but rather than blame the teacher, sit down with your kid, show him where he went wrong and help him get it right... Thank the teacher for their input and ask what more can be done to get your kid up to speed...15 years from now your kid might benefit from that change in approach

If your son has done the same piece of homework 4 times and is still getting it wrong then either the teacher cannot communicate the concept or your son just doesn't "get it", but won't admit to it.

Have you looked at the piece of work, seen where your lad is going wrong and coached him through it?

I wondered about that; if he's done the same thing over and over again, and the teacher has just crossed through it, is he actually doing what was originally assigned/intended, or has he totally got the wrong end of the stick?

The piece of homework was continuing a story of a little boy playing on the beach,
then she gave a few guide words to put in like "lifeboat rescue" "helicopter"
"drown"

and he had to continue the story himself, and put a dilemma in it as well.
He said that a dilemma was something else, so it was either her wrong or he has not been listening, so we had words with him for not listening, and he finsished it off. with some help from me.

I think the OP would be better off taking up this matter with the teacher & headmaster rather than posting it on here.

First time I've used it Don't think I'll be using it again now

jm, glad you've got it sorted. When I was younger my granny bought me a dictionary and told me if I was unsure of a word just to look it up. Good practise to get into as a youngster.

LOL, i have found this problem with my eldest sons homework (he is also 7).

His teacher marked his home work correct, and whilst i was catching up on what he had been doing at school, i noticed his multiplications were wrong, but ticked as correct.

Simply stuff [ ] x 100 = 400
Son put 40 as the answer when in fact its 4.

Brought it up at the parents evening, where i was I must be wrong. So i got his book out and showed her. She started to explain here reasoning, i interrupted her and asked her not to make a bigger a fool of herself. She then said she doesnt have enough time in the day to mark everyones work etc!

To the OP, if the work is genuinely wrong, be grateful, yes she could have given prompts as to how to right the wrongs.

Tell you what, my missus is a teacher now and i have seen some of the work she has to mark on a evening, and while some of it is ok, some of it is just pure "stupid" comedy.

fwiw she spends all day saturday marking and doing lesson plans and sometimes half a day sunday, it does not seam quite the easy ride that i thought it would be to be honest.

she came home in tears the other night (not the first time either) as 2 of the class clowns decided to light the bunsen burner taps when they were not supposed to, only to discover that one of them had been switched on for a long time, engulfing some young lass in flames and putting her in hospital

i have the utmost respect for teachers after seeing how it works on the "other side"

Wow, seems like you lot think it is ok for a teacher to call a young kid stupid in front of his class

No matter how hard he is finding the particular subject, even if he has been a bit lax with his attention, there is no room for belittleing a child in such a way.

The marking and crossing through stuff is fairly normal as far as I've experienced though.

WTF!? How come the gas to the taps wasn't stopped at the cut off valve for the room in the first place?

A school in the north east, but its not an isolated incident, she did her training in around 8 different schools and had some tales from them all bar one from what i recall.

i know teachers technically get a decent summer holiday and stuff off, but i am genuinely suprised at how much work the missus has to do through the week, she is hoping that it will get easier in time, we have been saving lesson plans to hard disk and trying to cut down on the paperwork needed for each lesson/plan in advance, but so far its not having any effect on the workload at all.

i think the problem is that in some schools, the class sizes are simply faaaar toooo big, i am positive she once told me she had a class of 33 kids at one school, that is complete madness, unable to control them, unable to spend any time with 1 kid, what is the point??

its possible your sons teacher is simply swamped with work and is looking for the easy way out.
