I feel that I'm not getting value for money for the following reasons:

1. The lack of communication from IB, I previously got billed twice for my subscription, sent a mail to Admin & got nowt back - I know its only a couple of quid, but its the principal.

2. The Seach facility is truely awful, at worst & hit & miss at best. plus if you use the wrong serach criteria & want to search again within 30 seconds the forum sticks it's middle finger up at you. Now if you are a paying member I'd expect that not to happen. The search facility was one of the reasons I started paying to use SN....

3. The number of PM's Limit - even at 200 its pretty low, could this be increased for "full members"

4. The "Go to Last post" bug, already mentioned above, but it seriously pisses me off, please pull your finger out! (I've tried the "hotfix" solution above& yep, its an interim measure, but the functionality needs sorting)

5. Adverts - I still get certain banners appearing, I think these are thread sponsors - signing up to "full membership" should allow me to turn off all these adverts, but they still appear even though I've disabled them in my profile.

I think thats enough to be getting on with.. can you tell I test software for a living?

I think it's in the right direction. I haven't noticed a huge amount of changes except that it does seem to have got a bit quicker...

Am I right in thinking then that anyone can now use the Search function again and only Mods can infract and ban? If so then will someone remind me why I bothered paying to be an 'Orange member'?

I actually agreed with the infraction system. I was especially fond of the little red 'x' that we had access to, to quickly dispose of new spammers.

The thing that annoys me most is the sudden disappearance of the nice touches that were launched prior to sale to get people to sign up (regular updates on the front page, prize draws, blogs etc). Are we going to see these features resurrected or have then now been dropped?

I appreciate the fact that you are obviously putting time in and things do look to be moving forward but from my point of view nothing really amazing has happened recently. I think you need to remove the homepage for a start and maybe should write a mission statement saying what we should expect, so if the features mentioned above have officially now been dropped then we can put it down to a bit of scamming to increase interest prior to the sale (by the previous owners ) and move on under new management.

Yes.

and ban?
Instaban is still available to paid members i think.

I actually agreed with the infraction system.
My thoughts on that are here and can be discussed there if you wish.

I'm not sure how they disappeared suddenly, or what updates you are referring to but we are looking into the other features you mention at the moment, although i cannot say whether they will be resurrected.

I appreciate the fact that you are obviously putting time in and things do look to be moving forward but from my point of view nothing really amazing has happened recently.
Did anything amazing need to happen?

I think you need to remove the homepage for a start and maybe should write a mission statement saying what we should expect
That will be along soon, i have touched on many things over in the policy forum but for now i can tell you my immediate plans are as follows:

Implement a new set of forum wide rules that will cover everything. These take some thinking about and compiling as users need to be able to refer to them as and when required. Most users Ive spoken to haven't a clue what scoobynets actual rules are or where to locate them. I will address that very soon indeed.

I also need to get the forum software upgraded to the latest version. This will bring with it a lot of improvements and some new features but it is a mammoth task that cannot be undertaken lightly due to the amount of customisation this forum has. This upgrade will fix many of the niggles we have now such as last post/quick edit/multi quote and many other little annoyances.

I will also be reviewing the infraction system slightly and giving serious thought to some new rooms that have been suggested. My list stands at 30+ jobs to do but those are the ones of most interest to most people, but they are not open for discussion on this topic, they are only listed as an answer to a question.

The topic is here and was run for about a week before new mods were announced in a new topic. It was also mentioned and linked to in my new admin topic (linked above) as well as being run as an announcement on every page in the forum. I guess you simply don't read stickies.

That is unacceptable and hopefully we can fix it for you. Did you participate in this topic? As far as im aware, all issues were resolved.

Have you tried it since it was fixed a week ago? Seems fine to me?

3. The number of PM's Limit - even at 200 its pretty low, could this be increased for "full members"
Yes it could, but then nobody else has suggested its a problem so its not currently on my list of things to consider? Was it not listed as being at 200 when you paid?

4. The "Go to Last post" bug, already mentioned above, but it seriously pisses me off, please pull your finger out! (I've tried the "hotfix" solution above& yep, its an interim measure, but the functionality needs sorting)
The reason we have left this fix is fully documented in the bugs forum. To briefly explain, its a template problem and the forum software update will renew all the templates that it may be, so its easier to just do it then. As for my *hotfix* as you call it, how can going to the first unread post be labeled as an interim measure? Surely you only ever want to go to the first post you haven't yet read? To me its FAR more useful and it amazes me anyone uses the one your bothered about... Regardless, the fix you need is on its way.

5. Adverts - I still get certain banners appearing, I think these are thread sponsors - signing up to "full membership" should allow me to turn off all these adverts, but they still appear even though I've disabled them in my profile.
There will be various adverts external to the forum frame but if you are getting them in between your posts or places that make the forum inconvenient, please let me know.

Time to put this back Stu: it was perfectly usable as it was. We complained when it was altered, but as you can imagine we were patronised and insulted, the now, gladly-departed admin.

can the few minor bugs that annoy the crap out of most users not just be hot fixed.. the forum never used to be "broken" I can't see why you need to upgrade to a newer version of vbb to fix a few minor annoyances - this would go a long way to restoring mine & other faith in this website?

just read your replies above, I will post again when I have more time. thanks for replying

Such as?

We would not upgrade JUST to fix annoyances. But we ARE upgrading in order to get the latest security and features. Features you will like. Since this upgrade will fix the issues, why pay someone to fix the issues twice or take the site offline twice when all they are, in reality, is minor annoyances?

As I am sure that you are aware Stewart, the format of the results returned by the search page/function has been changed. Before it was altered it worked well, now it is virtually useless, applying a meaningless 'relevance %age' to each result, whilst failing to actually return any useful results. If you search on your own name you only manage 61% 'relevance' and the results are completely random. Most people only paid in order to have access to a proper working search function.

The following was added at the time that it was messed up: 'Search results provided by: ibSearch from Internet Brands'.

Stu, the sort of "bugs" that annoy me and many other users, some have made their feelings known above, include the search facility, which is one of the main reasons i paid to use Scoobynet. Another bug is clicking a link to a thread on the main page results in a 404 error. Sometimes clicking the "post quick reply" button results in a 404 error. I could go on but i charge £45 per hour plus VAT for my services. I shall cancel my membership until these issues are resolved, thankyou for helping me to make my mind up, much appreciated.

The search on here is a special VB plugin which was developed to take the load off the server and over to an external database. The relevance programming seems to take various things into consideration when listing results and i find if you type the right question you get a good answer. If any one can give me a good example of how it doesn't work I will happily forward it to the development team to try and have it improved.

I just search "One week on" and got two topics that i persionally made with that name, right at the top, listed with 100% relevance.

I typed my name into the user name search box and got all my own posts as expected.

It simply does what i would expect it to do, so I'm struggling to see the problem and will need further guidance, sorry.

DJ_Jon, it may or may not be relevant, but there have been some threads recently relating to DNS lookup issues with some ISP's. If you think this may be relevant, try switching to OpenDNS, as this seems to have helped some people.

I will give that a try on/ my various home PC's, thanks for the tip. i can't make those changes at work as i, like most people dont have control over the internet settings and firewall etc. What i will say is it didnt do this in the past, by this i mean 404 error on certain operations. As for me cancelling my subs and it making a difference, i doubt it will make the sum total of **** all difference, however I will not be paying for a service that I feel isn't as described. I think that Scoobynet is a great site, it has helped me with numerous technical problems in the last few months. I just see no benefit from shelling out 2 quid to remove some adverts and a search facility that needs some work, when Firefox and adblockplus does the first part for free. I genuinely hope these issues are resolved

See my reply above, i need more details on that one.

I haven't seen any 404's since i started on here and i am here a lot now. Are you sure its not a DNS issue with your provider? Its been proven to be that on many other forums complaining of the same thing.

I shall cancel my membership until these issues are resolved, thankyou for helping me to make my mind up, much appreciated.

Does it work for anyone?
