Project P1 600bhp +
Poor old Daz, see it's your turn to get it
btw chaps, took the car off to a little private stretch of road today to test this flat shift set up. I am stunned by how much quicker the car is ! (or seems) I know the strip will be the real test.

It's alright hammer, I'm storing all these up for a rainy day
All taken in the good spirit they are meant too
Hammer next time you're at the pod I have no doubt if you get the right weather you'll get a ten. Unlike skullfudgepacker that will end up with a bunch of fives

Clive was the flat shifting set up the only thing that was changed when mapped? and
Do you up shift at the same rpm as before ?
Few tweaks and more launch control settings were added. I was probably changing a little too high in the rev range previously, will aim to change @ 7500 next weekend when I'm at the Pod again
We spent Saturday rushing to get the Mitsubishi Gallant finished so it's ready for next weekend.
Had trouble fitting the race seat as the 5 of us who are driving range from Andy (a 6' 3" shaved Gorilla) to Dean who could sew his socks to his pants and get away with it.
Eventually fitted it with enough movement on the runners and rigid enough to pass scrutineering.
Also got the five point harness fitted, and other bits & pieces.
Collecting the car Thursday and towing it up North on Friday to some place near Sheffield. (Not telling where we are staying in fear of tactical ambush threats from fellow readers of this thread)
By the way we got some gravel tyres (Thanx for the offer Daz)

ABS for track use.
I have just read a thread where the guy was asking if he would benefit from removing his ABS as he intends to track day his classic.
This has always been something I have wondered.
I have ABS on the P1 and with my current brake set up there have been times when I feel the brakes could be better, and I have put it down to the ABS or pads. I feel that RCM would have known what pads to use so that leaves the ABS.
Several years ago a friend asked me to test his ABS, so we chose a location out in the sticks.
At exactly 100mph I nailed his brake pedal & could feel the ABS vibrating on the pedal and it worked ok. I repeated this a further 4 times using the same braking point marker we had placed on the roadside.
(Note: the 5 tests I done were using the brakes and I changed from 4th to 2nd and used the clutch to brake the engine at the same time.)
Two weeks later he had the ABS removed, so we went back to the same location. Same conditions, same car.
I carried out 5 tests again using the same techniques. The first two runs I locked up the brakes for a second or two.
The next three runs went ok and the car stopped in a shorter distance than when running ABS.
I feel that ABS is great in icy or wet conditions, but I feel pretty sure that in dry conditions ABS does somehow restrict the brakes true optimum performance.
Any views on this would be good guys.

Clive it's because your car is a pants UK variant me OLD fudger.
The Type R doesnt have ABS as standard. perhaps you should have bought a better base to start from
On a serious note, you could always remove the ABS fuse and try that.

Pros
- security/confidence: just stamp as hard as possible on the brakes and let the system do its thing
- can still brake and steer around corners/obstacles without skidding
Cons
- longer stopping distances/times than non-ABS
Non-ABS
Pros
- shorter stopping distances/times than ABS
- have to employ cadence braking techniques to stop lock-up
Cons
- humans can nowhere near match the ABS's electronically-controlled cadence braking's modulation frequency!!!

Lol, that has gone through my mind too.
One thing for sure matey, if you did look like that plenty of people would recognise you, cos they sure wouldn't forget that fooking head in a hurry
Couple of pix taken this evening.
Splitter sprayed.
Bonnet had some tiny finger print dents along the front (from pushing it shut using fingers!). Dents removed & bonnet painted.
New front indicators ( previous n/s was cracked)
Newly fitted bonnet dampers Tein but sprayed sonic blue.
All wheels blasted / sprayed and lacquered.
Big thanks to SPR Coach works
SPR Coachworks - Accident repair centre Uckfield Sussex

Old header tank & screen washer bottle back in while Spec-R ones are being re-polished.
When I bought the P1 nearly 5 yrs ago I bought it off a guy that had really cherished it. Serviced every 2K etc.
He was close to tears when I drove off as he needed to raise £ 15K for his half of a new business venture with a friend.
I promised him I would look after it, and he now paints my car being one half of SPR Coach works.
Well worth a look guys, and cheap too.
