How many Scoobynetters
I have. Never said otherwise. Seen 140 leptons on the bike. No more than 100 leptons in the car though.
Never ever speed in built up areas. IMHO if you get busted doing 50 in a 30 or by a school you deserve to get the points and fine.
There is a difference between speedign and dangerous driving i feel and i think i've seen as many potential accident causers doddering about 10mph below the limit as i have idiots speeding past me on a water logged motorway.
More marked traffic cars, less sneakiness and less cameras. People want to see police on the streets/driving not hiding behind a hedge or trapping you with an unmarked Subaru.

Speeding is such a touchy subject!
It must be something to do with individuals not being able to accept the authority of someone else telling them what they can or can't do.
In order for society to exist without anarchy there have to be rules. The rules have to accommodate stupid people and therefore they invariably are blanket rules which are based on the lowest common denominator, i.e. speed limits. The problem then is people break the rules because they think they are more clever than the stupid people and can decide when it is safe and when it is not. Sometimes they are right, sometimes they are wrong.
Question is though, if they are clever, why are they surprised when they get fines or points?
I've had 15 points over about 17 years, all for speeding. I don't begrudge anyone, least of all the police, for the fines or points I have received. I decided to exceed the speed limit, I pressed the fast pedal and I was well aware of the speed limit imposed by the government.
I don't have any judgement on those who choose to exceed the speed limit, what I am always surprised by is people who speed judging those who choose not to. Surely it is okay to drive within the limit? Contrary to popular belief it is possible to get from A to B without exceeding the limit, even in a Subaru.
Seems like some scoobynetters would prefer it if driving within the limit was a criminal offence, which would be stupid....

You exaggerate, but;
I think you have unintentionally hit the nail on the head. Speed limits do have to be set for the lowest common denominator. That is a poorly maintained heavily laden old van, in the rain, being driven by someone who has only recently passed their test, had a sleepless night, and is thinking more about the job they're going to than what is happening around them as they drive there.
That's why we need police officers who are allowed to exercise discretion and are not just target driven drones, and no cameras.
When they stop me for doing 70 in a 60 on a quiet sunny day, and I'm obviously driving a well maintained capable car, have many years of points and claim free driving experience, and am focussed on the job in hand, then surely a word in my ear will be more productive than alienating me because of some random 'limit'.

i got a speeding ticket last night at 9.30pm on a straight road going down a large dip got clocked at 39mph but im not angry with the police for just giving me the fine and the points. its my own fault should of braked a bit more going down the dip instead of keeping the car rolling along.you cant blame the police there only there doing there job which is to enforce the law!

From: Slowly rebuilding the kit of bits into a car...
I did driver training for a 37 in a 30 limit....
The cop made a snide dig at the Subaru mentality.... so I asked him if his prodigious fertility meant he needed a "feeble-carrier", Ford Galaxy.
Then got him with the question, "which one ? me in Subaru doing 37 mph or ocotogenarian sat next to me driving her rusty old Metro ? if it was your kid was on the crossing ?
He didn't answer.....

lisa wrx........your right,i should just let it go,just get wound up easily by idiots even though i shouldnt, sorry!!
thanks for the advice, ive calmed down now, just found out s1lkos got 3 pts!
now after all his preaching........THATS funny!
oh,and peoples comments about speeding in 30 etc are absolutely right, our "rules" around here are:
30 sign means 30
40 sign means 40
national speed limit sign means go like ****! (allegedly)
"can you smell carrots?"
I've never said I don't speed, I've just said if you do, and you get caught, then why moan?
I hope you pay more attention on the road...
now breathe.....................and relax
It was a sweeping statement, not aimed at anyone in particular, that was written in response to somebody else's post - and with the same tongue in cheek tone as they'd used.
I've got far better things to do than create grudges with random strangers. If I really had an issue with you, I'd PM you (or just ignore you), not act up like a pair of schoolkids on a public forum.
You chose to make it personal, including:
- Suggesting I'm police... when I'm a writer.
- Searching for evidence of my speeding... when I've said in your own thread that I have a heavy right foot.
In fact, one of my 3pt moments was getting pulled for 114mph, to which I confessed to driving like a **** and got off lightly by acting with humility.
Which brings me back to my original point that I have stood by all along. And the irony? You've now welcomed it.
Goodnight
