Don't you earn your crust via a PC? Why not get the best as it's your time and therefore money at risk.

What is the best? <shrug> Surely you could spend thousands on some hardware based plug in firewall/AV, etc? Where do you draw the line.

They don't work as effectively though. They just appear to

Nod32 all the way. The only AV company out to have won 51 VB100 awards. How many have those free ones won?

Does anyone know if Online Armor (firewall) is particularly resource intensive or likely to cause computer lag. I'm finding some slight extra delay in response to my inputs when playing multiple tables of poker and this is obviously very distracting and a problem given that it's how I make a living. It's only a half-second delay to respond to my clicks but when playing 14 tables at a time it's a nightmare.

I had it earlier today, took me near on 4 hours to kill the bugger. Used Spyware Doctor on it in the end, but did manage to disable parts of it before then.

I used to use AVG both the free and paid for version, but later versions seemed to be less secure and less effective. I'm reasonably cautious wher I venture, so I was OK, but the missus is a typical noob surfer, she just clicks and hopes! AVG let her down a couple of times, but was streets ahead of Norton that she had before. I bought a 3 user license of Kaspersky after the review in PC Pro. Seems to do the business, and the missus hasn't been hit by any nasties since it was installed

CLICKY LINK

Rich, follow the instructions in this thread exactly and you should resolve it like I did. If the virus is redirecting your google searches and pages you might need to download the programs onto another computer and transfer the .exe files to the infected machine. It takes a while but you'll probably get rid of a lot of sh*t you didn't even realize you had.

Cheers Saxoboy, as I sit hear on my Mac running VMWare and XP in another window I can't help but mutter to myself how much I really hate Windows.
I only use Windows to browser test the sites I build. I'm not sure how I've managed to create websites with viruses in them, lol.
