I also used to be in to archery.

I started with a little 24lb recurve bow, and when i was around 14 my old man bought me a compound similar to the pic. I used to love it, and yes, Agree with previous poster, the only thing that took some getting used to was not taking the full weight of draw.

I then got into air rifles when I hit 16-17 and have had alsorts from springers to full on Daystate PCP's. But the drive to Rivington shooting club got a bit much and the only shooting I do nowadays is a little on my aunts farm.

My little cousins still get the recurve bow out each summer, they love it!

Do all you ex-archers miss not being on the radio then?

That bows only about 43# draw weight as I have shoulder probs, but only 50% let off.

A guy at the club has a guardian, and hes oly holding 9lb at fill draw, from a 62# peak.

Give it another 8 years and I can see compounds being allowed in the olympics and possibly a field demo in 2012
I'm biased against field ever since a most upsetting round at Centre parcs of all places! My first go at archery, recurve bow, no sights and I managed to completely fluke a shot that hit the drawing of a squirrel right in the kisser. They argued that it wasn't a kill shot! Well, technically, yes, but come on, the arrow was significantly bigger than the squirrel, I could hav hit him in the foot and it would have been fatal!

I shoot in Kent, Simon, I'm still a beginner; only been shooting for a year. Need a new bow too really, but the car has taken all my sodding money at the moment! Unfortunately the outdoor evening shoots have just come to a close and soon it'll be indoors and frostbites on the weekend!

Great sport though! Came along at just the right time for me, too.

Have a look at NFAS (National Field Archery Society) - Latest News

Shooting 3D's is great fun mainly as you have to know the size of the target, and elks and moose are huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge!! Really throws your range finding off.
