I know a bit how you feel mate. Ive had my scooter know for roughly 2 months and havent even had it a week yet without something going wrong. JT's motorcycles quoted me 600 quid, as they reckoned the crank had gone
Turned out that there was a loose bolt inside jamming everything. Then the water pump went, then the rollers were playing up, then the belt was nackered now the water pump has gone and the ore ring on top of one of the pistons has worn out so there is no compresion or something.
Anyway hope you get it sorted. Your cars a minter

Cheers for all the kind replies guys, this is what clubs are all about. I'm feeling a little more upbeat today. Judgement day will be thursday when its all stripped down. Hopefully the block won't have been scored so its just a case of putting new pistons in and finding out whats caused it. One thing is for definate though if i decide to do it, forged pistons will be going back in!

Good call mate, while it's all apart but some stronger bits in, it will pay for itself down the line.

Sorry to hear that Taylor. Remember the problems i had with my RA. I think i spent just short of £3000 over 3 years just in repair bills. Things like broken gearboxes, Timing belt tensioner pulleys collapsing. I know what you mean mate when you say there comes a time when you can't just keep ploughing money in.

Chin up mate and i hope everything turns out ok for you.

I spoke to the lad the other day who bought my RA and he has had 8 months of trouble free motoring too. Typical.

Sorry to hear about your engine troubles fella, if your looking towards upgrading parts. I have a spare set of Eagle rods with ARP rod bolts if your interested. Also I know of suppliers to source other parts very cheaply.

good luck

Just came back from seeing the engine stripped down and the pistons have shattered. Even though the engine was only running at 327bhp, when it should be capable of running 340bhp all day. In the mechanics opinion, these pistons where never capable of running this power and forged pistons should have been fitted or at the least P1 pistons, which are slightly stronger.
So while its in pieces i've decided to bite the bullet and have it rebuilt again.

This time its going to be rebuilt using Wiseco forged pistons, Eagle rods and ACM bearings and is going to have steel STi Type R head gaskets. Power output is going to remain the same, but this time i'll have a good safety factor built in and fingers crossed i shouldn't have a repeat performance.

Nope. Dave wasn't happy with the clearance on the pistons. They fitted the engine but weren't happy with the noise it was making when cold, it was fine when it warmed up but he said it was too noisy to live with. He fitted JE forged pistons and doesn't want to use any old brand, so he's taking it back out and fitting new liners. Hopefully it'll be another week, otherwise it'll be another 2 weeks as he's going on hols. I was a bit gutted not to have it back, but better its done right i suppose.

Sorry to hear about the job Lee. I'm sure you'll have something come along soon. Maybe a South Wales Scoobys mechanic.
As for the engine, its been in just over a year and covered 9,000 miles. I was gutted to say the least. It was rebuilt using standard pistons which evidently couldn't take the increased boost. I did consider the 2.5 route, but after having spent a fortune on rebuilding it last year, it was too expensive to have a forged 2.5, so i opted to rebuild the existing 2 litre. Its having JE forged pistons, Eagle rods, relined bores, reground crank, all OCL (or OCM whichever their called) bearings, had all the tappets removed and cleaned, new lambda sensor and new water pump. Just got to go through the running in process again now, so back to standard boost for a while.
Hows yours coming along Lee, done much with it lately or been to busy with preperations for the new arrival?

Gethin got all his bits back and started the rebuild but found his new wiseco's were 0.5mm to big for his bores , so his blocks gone off today for a re-bore, nothings straight forward these days is it

It sure isn't. He said rather than try to find pistons to match, he'd sooner stick with the JE pistons and get the block re-lined. I'm hoping he can get it back to me by next weds. But i suppose it depends on who's doing the relining, and how long they have the block for. Even though i've got my bro's car to drive around in, its not the same as having your own car. Is Gethin still selling the Cupra, might have someone whos interested?
